They want non-interference in the economy? Sweet, let's end their bloody subsidies. LMAO, what a load of bull**** that video is.
By the way, I think I found the article.

Wayne Stewart just tweeted that he is in the race.

What is the point of a bid for the 2022 winter games? Does anyone honestly think they would award those games to Canada? Seems like a giant waste of money.

I think I should throw my hat into the ring. With like 50 candidates running, I might have a chance to win. Just need a catching slogan that the voters remember.
The ballot is going to be a few pages long this year.

I think an inclusive Alberta (not just Calgary) bid could have a chance although I would wait for 2030.
The Winter Olympics cant be hosted by alot of countries and for those who can likely see it especially durring these times as more money than they are worth.
Have an Edmonton/Calgary winter games where the only major infrastructure needed is a high speed rail system and I think you could win that. Calgary would have to capitulate in giving the opening/closing ceremonies to Edmonton because of the larger stadium of course.

I don't know what to think of Wayne Stewart. I know I am fairly involved and like to think that I'm fairly informed. I can't be the only one who's never hears of him until this campaign though?

Yeah a 2022 bid is too soon following Vancouver. 2030 maybe.

I doubt a Calgary/Edmonton bid, much less winning bid, would ever be in the cards. Just too far apart even with the HSR link, especially once you take into account that the alpine events would be another jaunt to the west.
I agree that sometime in the 2030s for Calgary is more realistic. Something like 2034 maybe. I have to give Mr. Stewart marks for thinking big though.

I am voting for Bob Hawkesworth. I met him years ago and he was awesome to talk to, really nice guy and very down to earth and I agree with his policies.

Calgary will never host the winter olympics again. Has any country ever hosted the winter olympics twice? Even the summer olympics, with london, athens, etc, it takes a hundred years before your city will even be considered again. This guy is a joker looking for some cheap headlines before he fades off into obscurity.

Unless one of the current members blows my socks off or shows up at my house with a big bag of cash and a couple of hot hookers, I won't be voting for any current members of city hall.

It makes sense (to go back to cities that have already hosted, not necessarily this proposed Calgary bid). There are only so many countries that can host a winter Olympics, and those countries only have so many cities that are big enough and mountainous enough to host the alpine events. And it makes sense to reuse facilities... reduces the cost. Calgary would need a new ski jump though.

In depth interview by Joey Oberhoffner with Naheed Nenshi. Unfortunately, the audio quality is poor, but the conversation is excellent. I highly recommend. Nenshi's so far ahead in terms of understanding issues and solutions compared to other candidates it's ridiculous.

Most academics are - and I worry it won't translate well with 90% of the voting population.
Nenshi is smart. Too smart for politics in my opinion. He should be working as a consultant/advisory/critic for the City of Calgary - not as a political icon.
But... so far he's by far the best choice as far as I can tell. Hehr hasn't released much info so far but he's likely middle of the road. The rest of the pack are also rans with the exception of MacIver who epitomizes Calgary in the last century rather then the Calgary of today.

Vancouver turned a 100 million dollar profit IIRC.
Considering the facilities they got out of the deal, I'd say thats pretty damn good.
