Holy hell, I just looked at the prices for these things; I had no idea they were so expensive. $750 without 3g and $880 with it.
I thought that these could be a decent product, I could take it to school for notes, have it as a ipod w/ external speakers on the coffee table or have it as a digital picture frame when not in use.
I don't know why I thought they were more reasonably priced.

Sorry dude, it doesn’t work this way. You don’t get to make your own labels up. You GET labeled based on a third party observation of your behavior.
It’s OK to be an Apple fanboy.
I’m one. I’m a huge fan. I believe they have the best combination of personal computer hardware and software on the market.
But I also have to temper that enthusiasm with a right-time-right-place mentality in my professional job. I accomplish this by finding things to hate about every company. There is lots to hate about Apple, easily as much as there is to celebrate and enjoy and drool over.
If we called you an Apple passion-boy, would that be better? Whatever it takes for you to come to terms with your condition. Accept it. It gets easier with time.

^^ I agree with the above. I spent time trying to argue that I'm not a fanboy. I'd bring up things that anger me about apple or things I feel PC's do better. In the end it doesn't matter though because people have their own definition of fanboyism.
Not sure why it took me so long, but eventually I just stopped caring. It's the Internet ... opinions of others aren't that big of a deal. I don't care if somebody thinks I'm a sheep or a robot for apple ... I adore the tech in my life and if you don't like apple, that's cool too. All that matters at the end of the day is my wife likes me, my kid smiles at me when I walk through the door and the clarity of my mac screen gives me a half-chub.

You know what, though? I go back and forth on this all the time. On one hand, sure it's easy to just ignore it and look the other way...
On the other hand, though, wouldn't it be nice to be able to just have a conversation here without feeling ostracized or ridiculed or treated like something less than everything else?
Like seriously. Wtf is it about Apple products that pisses Windows fanboys off so much? It isn't Apple users, because I don't see very many of us posting the same crap in other threads that they post in Apple ones... Is it just that age-old "hate everything you don't understand" thing?
First they ridicule us, now they want to segregate us off into out own little subforum where they don't have to see us anymore. The best part is that we're still going to get people trolling Apple threads in the subforum, we're just going to have a couple extra clicks along the way before we can read it.

Isn't it just brand loyalty? You see it everywhere among rival products. People hear jump at every opportunity to bash the Oilers/Canucks (and rightly so). You open any video game forum and see the Xbox/PS3 fanboys bashing each other. I wouldn't take things so personally, be proud of the things you like.

It's mainly because of people who keep saying that Apple is the best and won't stop talking about Apple being so great. If Apple was any other piece of tech and didn't have someone talking about it all the time, it wouldn't recieve nearly as much attention. Most of the trolling is probably against your posts and posting style in particular because it seems to get people argumentative about it.
It's all about volume & balance. There are plenty of cool things from other manufacturers and companies but they don't get posted about all the time, therefore they don't recieve the same backlash. If there was someone posting all the time about how awesome Sony/Nvidia/ATI/Intel/AMD/Nintendo/Xbox/Blackberry/random Taiwanese company, etc. products were etc. he would get negative attention too.
The volume of positive and negative posts regarding Apple is probably perfectly correllated to the the volume of Apple threads. The more that you praise them, the more people who do not agree with your opinion will work to voice their own opinions.
I'm passionate about a lot of things but I'm not passionate enough about them to bother talking about them on a hockey forum's tech forum. You are. Be proud of that if that's what it takes.

The real world.
For every person that likes talking about something, there are more people that don't like talking (or hearing talk) about that thing.

That's your world. Not mine.
Here's a neat idea: If you want to talk about something else, then create a thread about it and talk about it. It's really not difficult.

Then you aren't living in reality. It's just how things are on a public forum. You asked why you are recieving this kind of attention and people are just explaining it to you. This is sort of like that video format thread. I know there's a vibrant Apple community here. You are only recieving attention because you are the most outspoken and the visible face of it. That's just how things work.

A Fanboy(tm) will hate things that are not of their specific realm of fandom mostly because it justifies their own personal choice.
Macs could be seen as over priced and closed if you spent half as much on a PC to do pretty much the same thing.
iPods and iTunes can be hated because of DRM if you have 3 different media players, none of which support the format they need to.
iPhones suck because the keyboard is hard to use if you are in love with the Blackberry keyboard. <---(this is me btw)
Of course, the reality is though none of those products suck. They are all excellent products that have done very well in the market.
Macs are slick looking and high quality hardware running a very good OS. They also come bundled, with no extra charge, with a smug sense of superiority because the reality is there are not many other computers that come close.
iPods are cheap, reliable and easy to use for listening to music or watching video. My Blackberry has a heart attack with every single error in a video file, but the iPod plays like nothing is wrong.
iPhones are far better at surfing the web than a Blackberry. That touch screen makes me drool every time I am not trying to type on it.
Bottom line is, only an idiot is a true and blind faith fan boy. Sclithero said it best when he said

Macs might be better at X while a PC is better at Y and an Android Phone might be this while the iPhone is that. To lock yourself in, for really nothing more than your ego, is really very foolish.
For me, I am a Windows and Linux guy due to my current stage of education and work. Right now, I prefer my iPod, my Blackberry and if I can justify the cost this weekend I might just end up with a shiny new iPad.

So what you're saying, then, is that the people who are hating on Apple threads are just fanboys themselves.
I do believe I concur.

Yes, I don't think anybody has denied that themselves. I've told you time and time again, a fanboy is just someone who is very passionate about something and wants to spread his joy and appreciation of that thing to others. Unfortunately, others may not share that passion and then people butt heads. Also that passion is often at the expense of the exclusion of other good things because they are justifying their personal choices. In essence, they are defending their own personalities, their own identies, their own thought-processes and desires in what they choose.
I used an iphone most of tonight because my own GPS went down due to me corrupting some of the maps files. I love the interface. It's great and intuitive and I wish right now I could sweep my hand across my monitor and have it do the same thing. Apple is great, it's just not for me (even though I am typing this out on an Apple keyboard).
I've said before, the negativity you might find from some in your threads is probably due more to your positivity. It's the natural balance of things. The more profusely you praise something, the more profusely someone else who does not share that view will work to voice their own counter-opinion because they think you are out to lunch or not giving everything their fake shake.

I don't even care about the fanboy thing anymore. I just get so perplexed when people talk like that. I don't even think in those terms. I don't care what people like or don't like, if it's something I'm interested in, I'll talk about it with them.
I don't treat people like crap for liking something I don't like. It's like the baseball thing. I hate baseball, but do I run around here and insult everyone who posts in a baseball thread? No. I stay the hell out of it and let them have their discussions in peace.
Who am I to tell someone else what they can or can't talk about? I'm just not that guy, and maybe I'm naive or something... but I still can't believe people like that are still around.

That's pretty much how 99% of internet forums are. You need to learn to take criticism of the things you like. Quite often, the criticism has some genuine point to it. If you create a discussion, people are going to read the discussion and invariably, the things you are passionate about will be criticized by others. That's how it goes. It's the same with every topic. If I say I am a Cammelleri or an Opera fanboy, somebody is going to cut in and critisize those choices. It's not a personal attack.
If you say "ipad is awesome because of this and that" someone will say "I don't agree because of such and such". That's just normal. The fact that half the threads on the first page are by you and regarding this topic simply creates a proprotional volume of likewise responses.

That's normal, but "you're just a fanboy sheep who buys overpriced crap" is not.
I'm sorry, but I don't have to get used to that. I don't tolerate people insulting me in the real world, why should I tolerate it on the internet?
