I'm flying back to Calgary this Saturday. I hope Thursday/Friday's snow fall is the last Calgary will see for the rest of the summer.

It's a tough call though either a big rain or snow event a few degrees C will make all the difference.

I think winter is mad that we were laughing at it being nice this year.

It's funny how much Calgary and my current location in China are alike in terms of climate. Vegetation too. The weather is almost the same right now.

Sorta like when the forecasters at the NHC joked about throwing chairs with respect to re-instating hurricane Ivan after it regenerated a week later, or the frustration they expressed when several alpha-named storms in '05 just would not dissipate. The local weather here is just too plain boring without flashy graphics.

City of Calgary
4:13 AM MDT Wednesday 28 April 2010
Winter storm warning for
City of Calgary issued
Intermittent rain changing to snow by Thursday morning. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres by Thursday evening in most localities.
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions...Listen for updated statements.
An upper low pressure system will move across the Rockies into Southern Alberta today before moving slowly eastward along the Montana border. The storm will move into Saskatchewan by Thursday evening. Ahead of the low periods of rain have begun in many communities. As the low moves east the winds will shift to north to northwest 50 gusting to 70 km/h and the precipitation will change to snow over western and Southern Alberta. Snowfall amounts will generally be in the range of 10 to 20 centimetres, but elevation effects will enhance the snowfall to near 30 centimetres along portions of the southern foothills. Extremely poor visibilities can be expected at times with the strong winds and falling snow.
Over the Red Deer..Drumheller..And Brooks regions the snowfall will be highest over western sections. Foothill areas to the west of Red Deer can also expect some snow but amounts look to be sub warning criteria at this time.

If you were planning to travel anywhere tomorrow, you should probably have a back up plan. It's going to be near zero visibility out there tomorrow.

Actually, I put the Chinese characters into google maps and it came up here:

I would think that place could have a similar climate to Calgary. It's far enough north.

It's miserable outside, but at least it's not freezing yet.

It is so wet outside. I walked to and from my car, and I was already covered in snow. This weather sucks more than actual winter weather.

Lots of wet, slushy snow on my car at lunch. Coming down like a mo-fo, but nothing accumulating on the roads just yet. There's actually quite a bit of water on the roads because the snowflakes are the big fatties.

I have hardly taken any pictures since moving here though. I'll probably take more next winter or when my brother comes to visit me here.

If you check the hourly forecast for the next 24 hours, surprisingly its suppose to stay in the plus digits all night. I'm sure most roads will be just wet and fine IMO.
