Default Missing that one ingredient.....

Have you ever made something (KD) and gotten to the point of no return (noodles tender and delicious, cheese mix opened and sprinkled in a heavenly manner on top) only to realize that your missing one key ingredient (milk) and you try to substitute for the next best thing you have (water) and then the whole dish goes down the crapper?? 'Causing you to eat a few bites to try and make it work but it just doesn't. Then you toss it in the trash leaving you hungry and disappointed .

Yup. Learnt that if you are missing Butter (or margarine) for KD, Cream cheese actually works really well as a bad substitute. So does Cheese Whiz. As for the milk, I find I actually prefer it not added. Just makes things runnier than normal.

I tried to make onion rings today but I had no flour so I substituted corn starch.

That must be an insane amount of butter to not have powder cheese chunkies in the KD. I hate runny KD as much as the next guy, but chunkies are gross too.

I prefer my KD a little on the dry side. Not crazy dry, but dry. It's why I'll use a second packet of KD cheese if I make a huge batch. But it sucks when you get the hankerin for some KD and all you've got is stupid noodle packets and no cheese.

Thanks a lot, I haven't eaten KD in a couple of years, and now I'm jonesing for it like a meth addict jones for his next hit.

I hate you all.

the key is to mix it right after it's been strained before the noodles dry out

since the noodles are still wet the cheese powder mixes right in without chunkies and you don't need much butter

Tempura batter is usually mostly flour with some cornstarch, sometimes at most 50:50. I used all cornstarch + bread crumbs. It still has that stale cornstarchy taste in my mouth and I keep burping.

My friend made KD for us once back in junior high, and he didn't strain the noodles or drain any of the water. Needless to say I didn't eat any of his powder cheese macaroni soup.

Curried KD is actually really good. Try mixing in some curry powder or garam masala mix, and using only about half the cheese powder.

Ah we've made that mistake when loaded multiple times. So disappointing.

I desire.... macaroni pictures.

Pleasing Moses is by favorite way to get rid of old KD.
