Yah I know what you mean. I'd be rich if I had a nickel for everytime I said "I'll never eat this again" after eating Mcdonalds.

There is not one single employee who worked at s king who now works at s knight. They are completely separate businesses. S king owner is lebanese, s knight owners are iraqi and the head cook guy (the one with curly black hair) is afghani. He also speaks fluent russian. So i'd say i know both places better than just about anybody in calgary aside from the owners.

Why does a electric donair shaver gross you out? Personally I dont like the My Donair franchise but the one in Westbrooke is where I get my donair fix, but to each their own i guess.
The shaver is gross because it does not look like it could ever be appropriately cleaned. It grosses me out, and I am sure others as well.

The place itself is simply generic. I often have a hard time simply getting them to make what I order as well (not a fan of tomatoes yet they still wind up in there half the time).

I will certainly eat there, but will go to Sammy's on 17 ave or A&A for second place.

New place in Riverbend, right beside the McDonnald's in the strip mall there. It's called Pita Grill. They have only been open for around a month or so, but my God is it good. I have had Shawarma from all over the Middle East (Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Qatar, UAE) and this place definitely comes close to that type of quality. The guy that owns it is a really cool young Iraqi dude. Very entertaining and friendly.

Since you've apparently tried loads of places, which ones (if any) use lafa rather than pita?

Jimmys A&A on 20th Ave. Just like any business they have good days and bad days. But even the bad days are better than most everything else out there.

I cant believe Sammy's pizza (either location) hasnt been mentioned in this thread yet. They make a mean pizza, but the Donair is pretty damn good as well!!!!
This thread is making me hungry

Sammy's on 17th was pretty good, I guess, just not as amazing as some in this thread and elsewhere made it out to be. I had the lamb, though, so I dunno about beef or chicken shawarmas or the donair. Definitely good bang for your buck with the amount of meat piled in there, though.

I really enjoyed the hummus, though.

That was me, pretty good little place eh? He is a pretty nice guy as well, makes most of the stuff himself.

The guy who was there wasn't the Egyptian owner, but a really exhausted, quiet Algerian guy. When I got there, there were some rough-looking 'gangsta' types getting their order, and he seemed uncomfortable, but when it was just us in the shop and I got talking to him he loosened up and I went away somewhat happy with the service. I doubt the shawarma suffered because it wasn't made by the owner. The guy seemed to be following a pretty strict procedure.
