I'm guessing if youtube won't play it isn't itunes related. Super stupid question time ... did you restart the computer?

Umm just a shot in the dark but do you have air tunes? Did you accidentally set it to output to your Airtunes?

I get this all the time.
Go into System Preferences, Sound and switch from your external speakers to the internal speaker. Try playing a song in iTunes. It should play now. Then switch back to your external speakers (I have the sound sticks, dunno if that matters or not). Then play a song in iTunes.
It seems to happen whenever I play a large file off Youtube in Safari.
Let me know if you get any sound on the internal speaker....

I'd been happy with my Mac's up until the last few weeks when I've managed to get the OS X equivalent of a BSOD. Your screen greys out slightly and a message drops down slowly from the top of the computer telling me I have to restart my computer because something is wrong.
It's getting quite frustrating.
