Default No Sound and iTunes won't play on my Mac

Just randomly stopped working. If you click a song on iTunes, it won't even start, and there is no sound to play any videos, YouTube, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas where the problem may be. Have checked all the usual setting etc.

I'm guessing if youtube won't play it isn't itunes related. Super stupid question time ... did you restart the computer?

Maybe try to plug in a pair of headphones if you haven't tried already.

Umm just a shot in the dark but do you have air tunes? Did you accidentally set it to output to your Airtunes?

That wouldn't create a problem with youtube though.

I get this all the time.

Go into System Preferences, Sound and switch from your external speakers to the internal speaker. Try playing a song in iTunes. It should play now. Then switch back to your external speakers (I have the sound sticks, dunno if that matters or not). Then play a song in iTunes.

It seems to happen whenever I play a large file off Youtube in Safari.

Let me know if you get any sound on the internal speaker....

It's getting quite frustrating.

Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

Verify your startup volume and repair if needed.
