Neil Young was AWESOME. Loved his performance. How can you not love Neil Young?? 35 here.
Anyone else get choked up when the put the flame out? That part always makes me sad. All of the performances were quite good, and that French girl was hooootttt. Alanis was awesome as well. Man do I love to listen to her sing.
Well done Vancouver and WAY TO GO CANADA!!!

I was completely blown away by Neil Young performing Rocking in the Free World with Pearl Jam when I was a young kid. Age has nothing to do with it.

1) Yes
2) I had always had a liking of older artists. Most of my music is pre-1990.

True because Lillehammer really set a standard in terms of quality and organization that's yet to be surpassed.

Things that were awesome:
Neil Young
Michael Buble singing "The Maple Leaf Forever". I had forgotten about that song being rewritten. It needs to be pushed onto the public consciousness more imo. Canada needs more national songs.

Yup. Especially if you have a nuclear submarine to sneak to the US.

Is that bad that during that whole thing, all I could think about was Rocky IV? The Drago/Balboa "Moscow" fight was actually filmed in Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum, so I guess it works..

I think the Russian national anthem is "cool" because of the history behind it. So many bad guy moments and sports moments where that Anthem was prevalent. When you here it, you just can't help but remember that stuff.

Rocky: [Addressing the Soviet crowd, translated into Russian line by line by announcer]
Rocky: During this fight, I've seen a lot of changing, in the way youse feel about me, and in the way I feel about youse. In here, there were two guys killing each other, but I guess that's better than twenty million. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and youse can change, everybody can change!
Rocky: [ loud applause, even by the politburo]

Yeah the Russian anthem was pretty good. Powerful and haunting as if it was the 70's all over again and the threat of being thrown into a gulag.
Hunt for Red October sure, but also recall it on Saturday WWF wrestling with Nikolai Volkov would sing it and get booed before his match.
Didn't see the medal ceremony for the 50km CC race...CTV must have been on break.
Young was great, as were Shatner and Fox.
"Maple Leaf Forever" was used in CBC Olympic broadcasts when looking back at Canadian performances from years past...and that's the only way I knew it exsisted before.

You know, the best thing about Neil Young is that his catalogue is over 500 songs of pure, unadulterated awesomeness.
Not only was "Long May You Run" entirely appropriate, but "Heart of Gold" or "After the Gold Rush" would have kicked ass as well.
A day of great Canadians . . . Crosby, Stall, Nash & Young.

Great closing Ceremonies, Highlights for me:
-Neil Young
-Catriona lighting the "malfunctioning" Flame
-Neil Young
-Michael J. Fox
-William Shatner
-Catherine O'Hara
-The over the top comedic stereotype routine, had me chuckling
Everything was going great before NickelCRAP hit the stage, from there I thought it fell apart. Very anti climactic.

That song is an anti-American anthem. Then it would be dissing Canada.
