I was hoping for Arcade Fire throughout the whole ceremony. Never came.

Neil Young on the Les Paul is the best guitar sound in the world, no question about it.

Other key moments in the closing:
  • The awarding of medals for the men’s 50-kilometer cross-country ski race, won by Petter Northug of Norway.
  • The swearing-in of two new members of the International Olympic Committee chosen by their fellow athletes — U.S. hockey player Angela Ruggiero and British skeleton racer Adam Pengilly.
  • The singing of the Olympic anthem by renowned Canadian tenor Ben Heppner.
  • A tongue-in-cheek revue of Canadian icons and symbols, featuring singing-and-dancing Mounties, tabletop hockey players, dancing canoes and flying moose and beavers.
  • A segment in which Canadian actors — including William Shatner and Michael J. Fox — made fun of national stereotypes.
Fox, who has Parkinson’s disease, received a huge ovation.
“I lived in the U.S. for 30 years,” Fox said. “But if the U.S. is playing Canada in hockey, I’m sorry, I’m wearing a maple leaf on my sweater.”

I would love to see the ages of those loving Neil Young and hating the groups that got the crowd going. Must be the same group that kept Rita McNeil on the air for so many years. Now that's some good Canadian Content

19 here, and Neil was one of my favorite acts. Neil, Alanis, Shatner and Michael J Fox were the only performances I enjoyed. Buble was decent too I guess.

This is coming from a metal head as well (and not the poser metal).

I'm a Beatles fan too, but I'll take Neil Young over them any day. The Beatles were widely influential and changed music more than Neil Young, but they didn't have the same raw emotion or folk honesty that Neil Young has. I'd even go so far as to say that the Beatles came off a little fake sometimes. While they had a lot of positive influence, they were also indirectly responsible for making image the primary factor in pop music and sort of started off the "boy band" thing (although clearly not their intention).

I'd rather be the grandfather of grunge (Young) than the grandfathers of boy bands (The Beatles).

Who said we were "into it". Just because I can recognize talent as a fellow musician.

Just leafed through this thread, sounds like I pretty much share the opinion of the board. First part with all the visual effects was really cool...the 20 min speech guy with the TERRIBLE French was painful...celeb speeches were AWFUL and awkward, though I like all three of those people(there's no way O'Hara actually wrote that stuff, shes way funnier than that. Sounds like it was written by a kindergarten teacher)...the stereotype-fest was awkward as hell and kind of embarassing(watched it with an Aussie and was so embarassed the whole time - what other country embraces its stereotypes like we do?)...and at least for me the music was good for the most part. Great to see Alanis again, man she's got talent.

Oh, and ya that opening part with the mime was great.

well Rogge didn't do the declaration of best ever games, but I would assume that was because of the problems at the start.

They were a great Olympics and Vancouver can be proud.
