Well you could have put Avalanche uniforms on them tonight as they got outplayed for the majority of the game but got bailed out by great goaltending, capitalized on their few chances and got some good breaks. Avalanche tend to not get too much credit around here for their horseshoe act.

I haven't been to impressed with Getzlaf either. I wonder if Jeff Carter at 100 per cent might have been a better option?

I have been re-watching that play at the end with the empty netter, and I just can't process what was going through his mind. It seems like he was checking for support, but why then? It seems to me that he knew Kesler was there even if he didn't know how close. You have to be strong on the puck and make the safe play.
I get that that was not the play that cost us the game, but it didn't help. And a real brainfart for a player as highly regarded as Corey Perry.
Just watched it again, and it doesn't compute at all.

Couldn't be worse. Carter was playing his best hockey of the season just before the Olympic break.

Here's my conspiracy theory.
If Sweden wins tonight they get the #2 seed.
Being #2 means going into the Canada-Russia half of the draw.
I don't think Sweden wants to win this game.

Has there been any real standouts for the Canadians so far? Crosby has been more or less terrible most of the time. Iginla maybe?

Not bloody likely
I'd tank if I were Sweden. Send the USA, Canada, Slovakia and Russia into the other half.

Heatley's been about it.

If Finland loses 12-1, I'm blaming it on GirlySports. Talk about jinxing it!

Heatley's done what was expected. Weber has been probably the best all around defenseman which probably is an inditement on poor play of some of the others. Doughty has shown some more offensive creativity than any other defenseman. Toews has looked all right in limited action. Team's been pretty underwhelming as a group though.

I believe you were watching the KHL tier 4 game on a different channel, where a player named D'ohtie played the game in tennis shoes. Because you couldn't have been watching tonight's game.
Drew Doughty has been outstanding -- very physical, defensively responsible, sharp, quick decision making in the offensive zone, and some sick freakin' moves.
If you'd take Green, Phaneuf or anyone else over Doughty, then you'd be just plain wrong.

I think that Morrow has done a great job at doing what he was brought in to do. He certainly hasn't been the best forward but he has played his role perfectly.
Heatley is probably the closest thing to a standout but a late goal in the last two games would probably have been needed to really put him in that category.
Crosby has been anything but terrible out there and easily one of the better forwards.
Iginla not close to being a standout. A decent game against Norway doesn't do it in my view.

I was starting to worry that it was my (our) Flames bias that has made so many of us angry with Babcock's use of Iginla so I checked some other message boards to get a more objective feel for it.
A poster from Bulgaria was curious as to why the Canadian coach kept #12 off of the ice when he seemed to really have so much chemistry with Nash and Crosby.
Do our Canuck fan posters agree?

Crosby has had flashes but at times he's looked pretty bad IMO. He's been nowhere near a standout and more of a disappointment when you consider he's been given every opportunity to succeed compared to limited ice time of others.

Doughty has been a big reason for at least 3 of the goals against and has been very shaky defensively.
He has done some nice things but I certainly agree with Patrick (and it hurts to type that) he has been brutal on the one timers on the PP. Numerous times he has been set up for perfect shots and he can't get them off.
Throw in the terrible spin-o-rama pass to nobody when he had a clear shot on net in OT and I would say he has at best been marginal.
Great upside but still way too many mistakes to be considered anything close to outstanding.

Heatley yes I agree has been very solid. Hard to tell with Iginla, he doesn't play enough. I don't think Crosby has been great at all except for a few flashes of brilliance. Not terrible though.
Erick is right, as a team things have not come together. There's still time though, barely.

Please. Iginla had two good shifts.
This tournament will not be won or lost on iginla's shoulders. It will be lost when we start an inferior goaltender who makes idiotic plays all game.
