In my opinion being patriotic itself is not a problem. However, it, like religion and so many other things, can be abused. It can be used to motivate groups to actions they might not normally consider.

Wow, those American masks suck.

The Russians and Czechs just made a design based based on their flag, but the Americans need a tattooed Uncle Sam who is either about to kick some ass or rummage about his tickle trunk looiking for his assless leather chaps...

Over the top Americana is just so damned cheesy...could you imagine any other country trying that and thinking they could pull it off?

Kipper should bring a Rammstein mask. Just put the flag in there somewhere. Or don't.

Or maybe Jean Sibelius skijumping and firing an assault rifle.

Just wait until we get a beaver tasting a drip of maple syrup whilst emerging from an igloo wearing a plaid lumberjack shirt.

Even then, its not the macho Americana "We're so awesome and we're gonna kick yer ass!!"

Its the "We have wildlife. And Syrup. And Shirts. And we're okay with that. Really."

Its just funny that their masks are all "bad assed" and they're probably gonna get their buts kicked and not finish in the top 5

Not sure about you guys, but if Canada isn't winning the gold medal, I'd rather see the Americans with it then a team of diving whiny Euros. Only European team I respect at all is Finland, and that's because they're the only players who play like North Americans.

I always used to cheer for the US after the Canadians.

Over the years though, their junior program has really rubbed me the wrong way. Parise, Kesler, Johnson, Kane, Kessel. I think it started with the U-17 NDP. I think it really rubs an entitled attitude towards their players.

Now all those ######bags are now on their Olympic team. Don't think I can bring myself to cheer for them anymore.

If not Canada, Finland all the way for me. They try to match our physical style, and the amount of quality players they produce for a country that size is outstanding.

I really like Vokoun's. Simple, but still intimidating.

Team USA trying to overcompensate for a shoddy hockey team with over-the-top masks.

Patriotism is cool, just not when it's slathered across your face.

I find military hardware on a hockey mask fairly inappropriate.

I wish Iran had a hockey team and put this on to piss everyone off in a hypocritical manner:

(Disclaimer: This post is not anti USA at all. I have no problem with the USA or it's residence. Just because one loser from that country decided to throw guns all over his mask because he feels that is his national identity, I feel in no way is that a representation of all American people, in fact the contrary. If some wanker from England did this it wouldn't be cool either. If someone from Canada did it, clearly they would be using sarcastic humour to make fun of our military, which is uncool in a different way.)

A little OT.

Check out Louongo's Team Canada pads

As a larger-built goalie, I can say that thigh-rise's are crucial. Especially if you're on the taller/lankier side.

But his are more than 1/4 the size of his pad, that's insane!

I know that we've all been joking about Loungo's pad sizes for years, but it never really hit home until I saw these pictures.

Loungo had to wear them playing for the Canucks so they could auction them off as 'game worn' equipment.

as much as I hate Luongo, I'd have a new-found sense of respect for him if he wore a seal-clubbing mask.

To the people getting offended by making fun of a crying eagle just relax. Sheesh you could find any random photo and attach it to the WTC and people would get offended.
