I'm the polar opposite - most Americans I have met have been top-notch. But that mask is brutal.

I dunno, a lot of people who make this kind of stuff do it for profit. "Patriotism" is a pretty big industry down here....not a huge fan of people trying to make cash off of tragedies. I think it's fair game....and I say that with the WTC site viewable out my office window.

Well if your American , and can see the WTC site... you would think you wouldnt want people putting that up in jest ...

I am not calling you unpatriotic and I totally agree with you on the profiting off a tragedy. However , that being said, I am still American and dont like people making fun of that tragedy. Of course , most of us Americans are overly patriotic . If that is a crime , Guilty as charged!

Well, just to clarify, I'm not American (even though I have lived here for 7 years now and have an American gf), but do like this country quiet a lot. I just don't think how something like a crying eagle will do anything. There are too many good things about this place to need this type of cheesy lameness. I get more pissed at people trying to profit off of 9/11, than people who don't necessarily honor it.

Why care? Haters gonna hate.

There are a lot of U.S.Americans that come across as ingnorant and arrogant when they visit other countries. Superiority complex sort of thing, I guess. I have met some of these people (and may have a rather low opinion of your education system) , but I have also met several intelligent and generous people who hail from the States also.
I guess the superiority attitude of some U.S.Americans is not completely unwarranted (gotta admit they are the current world power) but this will garner some ill will. Also being the world power makes your country (to some extent) the world police also, and this also will be resented. I could go on, but meh, this is already becoming a wall of text and off topic as well. To sum it up, some hate I do not. I actually like my southern neighbors. Especially fans of the Calgary Flames.

We're making fun of the masks because they are so over the top stereo-typical American.....f-yah!

Hey, lets not forget the BC has more bald eagles than all of the US!

I didn't see it as "making fun". There's a whole lot of symbolism going on in that mask: guns, helmets, dog tags, eagles, helicopter, and I think I can see the nose of a fighter jet poking out. I don't see the twin towers and a crying eagle as too much of a stretch given all of the other symbols.

If this was the 2002 Olympics, I'd be willing to bet that Quick's mask would have the twin towers in it, given all of the other symbols he's adorned his mask with.

And I also don't think that the original creator of the twin towers and crying eagle montage did so as a joke. I think it is authentic piece of post-9/11 patriotism. I know that 9/11 is a touchy subject still, but I honestly don't think that it was being made fun of.

However I understand some people are ignorant and dont care. I might also be touchy because the AP released some new photos from the NYPD yesterday of never before seen pictures from the air ...

Three posts before that you indicated that you didn't like the tragedy being made fun of, which I assume was in response to the crying eagle picture. Regardless, we're splitting hairs.

Edit: And those ARE some pretty amazing photos. Very interesting perspective from above. Thanks for that link.

How can you not like that mask.

Simple with the Eagle + US Flag. You dont get more simple than that.

You don't seem to be able to differentiate between making fun of the ridiculous things that have been created to profit off the tragedy (crying eagle paintings) and the tragedy itself. They are different things.

Did the Americans have Ed Hardy design their masks? What cheesy garbage, they should go out on the town in Vegas wearing them.

Now Richter's , that was a proper USA mask.
