Default Edge of Darkness

Didn't wanna bog down the "Recommend a Movie" thread with this, but I just saw this last night and needed to say something about it. That's the worst movie I've seen in theatres in a long time. The death scenes were pretty cool, as was the fact that it was cheap Tuesday so I got free popcorn and a free soda along with the ticket. Those were the two highlights of the movie. I usually like Mel Gibson movies but this was just awful.

Anyway that's it, I don't care if this thread dies a terrible death now. Just wanted to let people know to save their money.

Spoilers in white: They didn't spend near enough time building the relationship between him and his daughter at the start, so you don't even really care when she gets glocked. Considering that's supposed to be the main drive for the rest of the movie, I think that's a pretty big drop of the ball.

Also, was I the only one that wanted them to explain that whole nuclear arms angle more? That was a really interesting plot, and then they just pushed it to the wayside so it didn't get in the way of all the killing. Ok, so the execs at the company wanted to nuke American cities and then blame it on Al-Queda. But why?? What's the motive? Just because they're dicks? I know they mentioned something about Eastern Europeans, but I needed more explanation there, kinda lame how they just left it at that.

Wow are there some awful one liners too: "You're either being nailed to the cross, or driving in the nails", or when it looks like he's about to collapse and then he's like "No...not yet". And all I could think about when he had the guy yelling "CRAVEN!!!" was Simpsons: MENDOZAAAA!!!! I laughed a few times out loud over some of those, and I wasn't the only one. Him constantly talking to his daughter after she was dead got pretty cheesy too, I was laughing when they strutted out of the hospital together at the very end. So funny.

Haha nice. As bad as it was, I'll give Gibson credit for still being able to play the crazy, revengeful character well.

Plus his accent (at least on the commercials) seemed really terrible.

They've really been pumping this movie. That's usually a good sign that it's going to be terrible.

Plus their trying to get Mel back in the game. Which I hope doesn't work.

Just looking at the trailers seemed like bad acting/bad script writing to me. Kinda over the top

Mel Gibson is 10x the director than he is an actor.

Isn't that pretty much WHAT he plays... nearly every movie... And even with that he is average at very best... I won't be seeing this one... ever, I am hoping

Oh ya, in all the crap of how bad the movie was, I totally forgot about his accent. An Aussie talking with a Boston accent, just seemed weird. I didn't even realize at the start of the movie that it was supposed to be in Boston. I remember saying to myself at the start: "Is...is he trying to sound like he's from Boston or something??"

Haha yeah, in the commercials it sounds like he's trying to do Boston Southie, and keeps getting it messed up with a New Yorker (Brooklyn maybe?) and like you said some of his natural accent comes through...

Reminded me a bit of American Gangster. Great movie, but Russell Crowe should have been shot for his accent. GAH!!! Another Aussie messing up a localized US accent.

They need to take lessons from Hugh Laurie.

Ya I remember that buggin me in American Gangster too. I don't know why they didn't just let Mel do his usual "American" voice, I was actually shocked years ago when I first found out he was an Aussie because its such a good accent. But trying to do an ecclectic Boston accent? Not so much. What was the point of it even being set in Boston?? Seems like a waste of months of practicing voice lessons for no real reason...but then again basically everything in that movie seemed like an odd choice. I guess it goes with the theme.
