Matt Holliday will remain a Cardinal for the low, low price of $120 million over seven years.

Andre Dawson gets the call to go to Cooperstown. Alomar was just shy of being the first Blue Jay.

as a huge Expos fan (favorite team in any sport) really happy for the Hawk. I believe Raines to be the better player, but not sure that the voters will see that , but glad to see the 2nd of the 3 elite Expos from that era admitted

Default Anti Alomar why should baseball even continue to have stats at all then?

Is their a anti Alomar/Toronto Blue Jays amongst American voters?

Alomar's stats are as HOF as they get.

10 Gold Gloves 1st alltime 2 more than any second baseman in the history of Baseball.
How do they over look that is mind boggling.

4 Silver Slugger awards 4th alltime amongst all second baseman.

12 time Allstar 12 straight

ALCS MVP

Allstar MVP

2 Champoinships

And that is just his awards

his stats are crazy

.300 lifetime average

PBP of .400 8 times

6 short of 500 stolen bases 40th alltime

doubles ranks 47th alltime

hits ranks 53rd alltime

All over looked by bias voters because of a split second spitting incident out of 17 SEASONS That he appoligized for after that game and the same umpire he spit at said he would himself vote for Alomar to be in the HOF.

Sure its his first time up being up for the HOF. But he is perhaps one of the top 5 greatest second baseman of alltime.

The fact that some voters said they will NEVER vote for Alomar is absurd.
Baseball is a stat driven game.
Talk about hypocrits.

Most likely the reason that he didn't get in is the stupid "First Ballot Hall of Famer" tag. Some people probably just didn't want him going in right away, it's absolutely ######ed and there's actually a lot of backlash right now about the voting process.

Alomar should be in there for sure, but he'll be in next year.

LARUSSA HAS DREAM OF USING MCGWIRE AS PINCH-HITTER

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa can envision a late-season situation in the 2010 season in which he goes to his bench for a pinch-hitter, and calls on Mark McGwire to step to the plate.

Yes, the same Mark McGwire who is taking over as the Cards' hitting coach this year.

Speaking to the Contra Costa Times while in Walnut Creek, California for a charity event, LaRussa says it isn't impossible that the 46-year old former slugger could step back to the plate if the opportunity presents itself.

"If we're in contention, we'll put him on the roster Aug. 31. It's a nice little dream," La Russa told the newspaper.

He probably had a better overall career with the Expos, but he won his MVP with the Cubbies. Plus, the Expos aren't around anymore.

I agree it should be the Expos, but would be shocked if it isn't the Cubs.

The A's signed Ben Sheets to a one year, 10 mill contract today. I got an email from my A's connection and it looks the A's are going to make Damon a decent offer as well, whether he accepts is another story though.

A good signing for the A's, although it is a pile of cash for someone who never threw a ball last year. In the same sense, they don't have much to offer from the bump, so even a semi-effective Sheets is an upgrade to what they have. If Braden, Cahill and Mazzaro can continue to grow, they could have a very respectable staff in 2010. Love their bullpen as well, and the acquistion of Kevin Kouzmanoff, though I have never been a big fan of Cliff Pennington playing up the middle.

Jim Thome is going back to the AL Central this time with the Minnesota Twins where he will payed 1.5 Million and could end up making 2.2 Million. Thome's expected to DH and do some pinch hitting for the Twins, although it's unlikely he'll play every day.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...ins/index.html

Don't forget Brett Anderson. That guys upside is huge. Personally, I'm not too sure about Sheets at $10M, but I guess pitchers are at a premium once again.

The rotation is still going to be young and inexperienced. It should consist of:
Justin Duchscherer
Ben Sheets
Brett Anderson
Dallas Braden
Trevor Cahill/Vin Mazzaro/Gio Gonzalez

The lineup is still missing a big time bomber. But near the end of last year they started running on the base paths much more than they have in years and the young kids showed promise.

It will be another long year in Oakland unless everything goes their way but the kids will compete and will be fun to watch.

Dawson is going in as an Expo, but he isn't happy about it (too lazy to copy the link from ESPN)

Oakland is always such a joke - they are just constantly searching for these 'value' players and you cant run an organization like that. Get a real horse, a real bat, and then add pieces for value. Christ. It must suck being an Oakland sports fan.

As for 2010. Who is taking it all?

I saw that...i think he has more of an argument than carter, but he's still an expo. and quite frankly i don't know what the benefit of making it so public is...looks bad.

Joe Mauer on the verge of a 10 year extension with the Twins. If you're going to pay a guy big money, Mauer is probably the guy to pay. Catchers who can put up the numbers he does are the rarest commodity in the game.
