How???

By suggesting, not legally demanding, that people only park in these spots with certain types of vehicles?

Next thing you will be claiming that Nabisco is infringing upon your rights when their suggested serving of Shreddies portrayed on the box front includes a banana and not the strawberries you would prefer.

I know you really want to be right on this one, but I don't see it happening. I couldn't care much less about the environment right now and if it would save me a few hundred bucks, I would probably not be against dumping toxic chemicals directly into our drinking water, and I still think that it is a good idea for stores to have these signs.
*disclaimer* I really wouldn't dump toxic chemicals into our water, or anything else that would be illegal, but the environment is so low on my list of priorities that it needed an extreme example

Everyone has a right to have equal access to the parking spot, not dependent on what type of car you drive.

I'm done with this. You are clearly now arguing for the sake of arguing.

I've seen many articles claiming that the pollution impact from the mining, manufacture, and transport of the nickel for the manufacture of the nickel metal hydride batteries of the Prius is more harmful to the environment than your average gas guzzler. Hopefully Toyota comes out with a lithium solution sooner or later.

After complying with laws regarding disabled access, private businesses have the right to assign and apportion their parking lots as they see fit. It is called reserved parking, and they do it for executives, employees, 15-minute customers, prefered customers and on and on.

I really don't care if you think I'm a jerk because of the car I drive. That's your problem. If you deliberately damage my vehicle, you are committing a crime.

Seriously, grow up.

Did you read this thread? This has been addressed, and yes, I agree... (as per a previous post) that lithium is much better and on the way.... (the Volt is going to use Lithium as is the Leaf).

Wow, dude, just wow.

I refuse to believe that most Calgarians would be upset that stores are providing these spots. I believe that some rather ignorant Calgarians would be upset, and the majority wouldn't give a rat's ass because it doesn't bother them. The few that are angry and not idiots would just stop shopping/going to said location.

You can think that it's a little odd or weird that these spots would be offered, but to actually get so pissed off about it that you feel like your individual rights are being violated...I don't know what to say to you.

Amazing.

Businesses have the right to attract and cater to the type of customers they think will bring them business.

How is this any different than a dress code?

You have no "right" to free complimentary parking.

Metered parking? Different story. First-come, first-served.

Yesterday at Costco I took a quick peek to see if I could get something close, I couldn't, so I headed for the far corner. On my way there I passed a couple with six chins between the two of them looking for a spot. In the three minutes it took me to park and walk back the obese-mobile was still driving around looking for a spot.

Where did any of this come up from? Did I mention rights to free parking, or metered parking?

The thread is about stores offering preferential treatment to somebody based on the type of vehicle they drive. To me that comes across as being a little arrogant, and sometimes people like to see people who are acting arrogant have something happen to them to put them into their place.

Ideally, I would like to see somebody who parks in one of those hybrid stalls have to wait as the local senior's bus blocks the way to load or unload passengers, and watch the guy begin to loose it a bit behind the wheel. MJM sees somebody keying the car.

Hybrid owner didn't make the policy. How is he being arrogant? Why does he need to be put "in his place?"

Won't affect me in the least these spots. I drive an expensive car and park it as far away from the door as possible. I'm just against it principle.

Flames charge money for parking.

If they want to have a pricing tier based on proximity to the entrance, they are free to do so. No different than how they sell seats.

Not dodging anything. Wealthier people are better able to afford better transportation, are they not? Does not higher incomes beget privilege? Someone with money wants to pay more to park closer to a venue?

Capitalism, baby.

Business owner wants to bestow certain perks to a particular demographic that does not violate charter of rights? His business decision. He either blunders or profits from it.

You guys keep yammering on about how it's okay to categorize someone based on the brand of automobile they drive. That to me is pretty shallow. Especially if you start condoning vandalism (or even wishing personal inconvenience).

Personally, the hybrid-only parking stall sounds like a bit of a fad. It'll probably die out soon enough.

You are dodging the question and just keeping circling it with your BS. There is no corelation between the way the Flames sell tickets and parking. For the Flames tickets, if you want a better seat, you pay a premium. For parking at the game, everyone pays the same $12. If the Flames started saying everyone pays $12, but we are designating all the good spots to those people who make $100K or more there would be a 200 page thread on here and the Alberta Government would likely be involved within a day.

If you believe that these hbyrid spots are perfectly fine, than you also believe what I stated above is fine, it would be alright for people who have more income to have better access to healthcare, etc. If don't, you are a 100% pure hypocrite, and in true calgary puck fashion, are just arguing for the sake of arguing.
