Default Hybrid Parking?! F- THAT.

So today I noticed that all these "Hybrid Parking" spots have popped up right beside the Handicap spots... Umm... F-U.

Hybrids should get no f'n advantages over other drivers. How 'bout diesel parking? Small displacement parking? No?

So some tool bag in a Hybrid truck that gets worse mpg then me gets to park up close cause he's got a hybrid logo on his tailgate? Or the Prius guy who feels the need show everybody the great anonymous act of earth friendliness he's doing when there are much more fuel efficient cars then his bitchmobile?

Thats ######ed and unfair. I'm actually truely angry about this which is sad but man... so stupid.

Just park parallel and take up 3 spots.

Wtf is with the selfrighteous status for people who drive Hybird these day.

This idea of a parking spot is just flat out stuipd. People should just park there for the hell of it. What? I can say my car is bybird, just doesn't have the logo!

Also, the emission friendliness of a Hybrid is less dependent on the fact that it is a hybrid, but rather, how it is driven (granny or aggressive or somewhere in between) and where it is driven (stop and go or non-stop or highway).

They don't deserve a special parking spot, I'm sorry. If they're truly eco-friendly, they would walk and not bother with a hybrid car.

That's quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard, and completely unenforceable.

I agree. We should boycott every company that is trying to promote environmentally friendly behaviour. The b@stards!!

Just for my information, what are the cars out there with better MPG than a Prius?

Of all the things to be pissed off about, this is not one of them. Good on them for trying a small gesture to help cut pollution.

It is like Alberta is bizzaro world, where people who recycle are pariahs, and people who drive SUV's are respected members of society.

Many. It depends on how you drive it. If you drive a e92 BMW M3 and a Prius non-stop at 50MPH, the BMW will get 15+ MPG more than the Prius.

Then there is the guy at Shaganappi who wanted me to think Hybrid because he gets 100 km more in a Hybrid than he does in a normal Malibu. The Hybrid costs what, $10k more? (I'm not sure), sorry but it isn't worth it.

And for the record, in the long run a Hybrid is more wasteful to the environment than a normal car is. Where do they get the batteries for the car from?

Oh the irony of having specifically designated parking for environmentally friendly cars at big-box chain consumer outlet stores...

Right. If you compare apples to oranges. Let's try the M3 on a typical city commute. IF you are going around a race track all day, then yeah, I wouldn't drive a Prius.

It certainly is an investment and a sacrifice. Economically, hybrids are a wash at best. Which is why you need some other incentives to get people to buy them.

Again, searching for ways to tell people trying to do something for the environment that they are a bunch of stupid-ass hypocrites.

However, Toyota is working very hard to ensure that every nickle based battery in the Prius is recycled, reducing the amount that needs to be mined. They are also investing heavily into producing longer lasting lithium batteries. But I'm not exactly sure why. The lambasting that the hybrid cars are getting now really destroys the market and nobody will want to buy them.

The Chevy Volt already is using lithium ion. Would you say that it is better for the environment than a traditional car? Or are we going to find a way to call the people that buy them a bunch of idiots too?

Last time I saw a hybrid slot at Chinook, it was occupied by some jackass' double wheeled Chevy.

I laughed. I'm sure the driver thought he was being a rebel (even had the truck nuts) - but in the end he was probably just a ######bag.

I'm happy driving my relatively efficient 4 cylinder Mazda. It isn't a hybrid, but it isn't a gas guzzler either. Plus, I'm not so lazy as to go out of my way to avoid walking 50 feet to a store door.

BS. Non stop at highway speeds, the Prius gets 45 mpg vs 20 mpg for the M3.

I googled a test top gear did if that is what you are talking about, and that was about the m3 getting slightly better mileage at the same speed as the Prius going its top speed around a track, which is just a goofy comparison that has nothing to do with the real world.

Your point is valid that if you are going to judge cars by their environmental friendliness, it is wrong to just judge them by hybrid/non-hybrid vs judging them by fuel economy.

And if you are going to state this as fact "And for the record, in the long run a Hybrid is more wasteful to the environment than a normal car is. Where do they get the batteries for the car from?", you got to offer up some proof. I'd venture to guess that a prius using half the gas of a regular sedan for the life of the car is far better for the environment, regardless of the battery.

How do you figure? Every barrel of oil that has been drilled out of the ground will get burned eventually.

Sure, if your hybrid uses half the gas, more people can move around, but I don't think the environment cares if 1gallon of fuel was burned by one car or two.

I don't get your point. More demand = higher price = more drilling. Also, any drop in price makes the most expensive (and environmentally damaging) supplies unprofitable.

You're better at posting anecdotes and conjuring conspiracies than talking economics. I would stick to what you're good at because this post is a total laugh.
