no i agree with the other poster ... it sucks to have your house burndown, no matter what time of year.

and in fact, if you are really into the christmas spirit, i would suggest having such a terrible thing happen at christmas time would be best. afterall, when will someone need their family and community more than when they have just lost everything.

my though is, i dont care when it happened, i am happy no one lost a loved one.

A lossed house is a lossed house. It's gonna really suck at any time of the year. Sure it may be worst at what is suppose to be the most joyful time of the year for your family, but it's still a terrible thing to happen if this was smack dab in the summer since your homeless.

Yes, it sucks to have your house burn down. To have it happen around Christmas also ruins the entire Christmas season for these people.

Which adds to the emotional toll. Christmas is a time of fun and family. That will not be happening for those families this year.

You don't know that. Maybe these people have nice family that they can stay with and that will make Christmas all the better because it bring their family closer together than ever.

I've heard that Roxul really isn't that much better than fibreglass when it comes to fire rating. It's the vinyl siding itself that is the real problem. In other jurisdictions, they require stucco, stone or brick on homes that are built close together in new 'burbs. With the City now pushing for more density in new neighbourhoods, the days of vinyl siding are probably numbered here. I won't be sorry to see it go.

When I was 10 years old our house burned down. We lost everything including our two cats. This happened in March. It ruined our life for months until we could get things back together with the help of our family and friends.

I cannot fathom how much worse it would have been if this happened in December. To have it ruin our family Christmas would have been too much to handle.

Today in the Herald they stated that the home where they think the fire started was a FORMER grow-op. It had been completely renovated, and inspected, and deemed safe for habitation, but the humidity of the grow-op may have damaged the wiring, which could have started the fire....but they have to thaw the basement before they can figure anything out.

Also, there was a "suspicious individual" seen trying to enter this home at about 3:30 AM, just before the fire broke out. THe person left when they couldn't gain access to the property, and the police are obviously looking to speak with them.

Our house burnt down when I was 7, it was 3 in the morning and my sister was baby sitting us as my folks were out at a party. I remember her tossing me out the bed room window with my other two sisters.

It started a whole nasty chain of events where we had to temporarilly move from Winnipeg to Coaldale while the house was rebuilt. I had to stay with my ultra religeous grandparents and when to a Catholic School run by the Sisters who got great joy in smacking me with a ruler whenever I swore, or said the lords name in vain.

I also got strapped several times for fighting.

Man that fire really sucked.

The suspect in a $2-million blaze allegedly triggered by a marijuana grow operation has turned to the same lawyer who helped him beat a murder rap.

Previously, he spent a year in jail on charges of second-degree murder before a judge ruled he and his co-accused acted in self-defence in the death of Todd Miller in March 2006. He was released in May 2007.

McDougall was arrested earlier this week and charged with 16 counts of arson by criminal negligence as well as an allegation of producing marijuana.

The charges related to a fire last Dec. 5, which destroyed five homes in Calgary’s northwest community of Citadel.
The fire started in the basement of a home on Citadel Forest Cl. N.W. about 3:45 a.m. and quickly spread to four surrounding homes, destroying all of them.

Investigators said they believe a man connected to the illegal drug operation discovered the fire and went into the house to rescue his two dogs -- but then fled without calling 911 or alerting any neighbours.
