My wife read all of the Twilight books and saw the first movie (which she claims was stupid). I can't recall why she started reading the books, but I take every opportunity to make fun of her for it!

I don't mean to offend anyone's wife or anything but those books are geared towards women who have self esteem issues, which like 95% of women have so it is expected that the books are so well liked. They are meant as escapist novels. (well that and Christian propaganda)

I must say I agree though. Why sit thru some stupid movie just for some chick in her panties? I guess for a lot of guys it is the only legal way to watch a 16-17 year old in her bra and panties acting like a horny schoolgirl. That and the actresses are usually famous.
|
Heh, after you make a sweeping generalization about all men I make a comment that I don't feel that way.
Again, I would rather legally watch an 18 year old REALLY acting like a horny school girl, or nurse, or teacher, or nanny than suffer through a Lindsay Lohan movie. This is only my opinion, I do not profess to be the measuring stick for the rest of the male population but I am part of the group that you lumped together and I feel I can make that statement...

I think that breast implants are also geared towards women with self esteem issues. I'm not sure what your point is though?

Exactly the point of the picture, if a bunch of men went to the next Harry Potter movie with posters and t-shirts for Hermione the police would totally show up.
Totally unfair!

To throw in a female pov here on the books:
- I've read all the books twice....they are a quick read, clearly intended for a teen audience (the intended targets after all) and a good enough fluff read
- personally I didn't much like Bella, she's not a great example of a strong female character thru the 1st 3 books but it's a great contrast for the 4th book when she more or less come into her own
- the guys in it are pretty standard romance novel type characters, the action while specific to the situation is generic type conflict required to test the hero's & heroine's love for each other etc
As for the movies, the 1st one was pretty bad. They had no budget so the effects, music and directing were all pretty bad. It was fairly faithful to the story tho.
The 2nd movie is dramatically better from a technical standpoint - it no longer feels like you're watching a bad after-school movie at least.
If you don't like the subject matter, you're not going to like the books or movies. As to why people are obsessing so much over this, well, it happens. Sometimes things just strike a chord in people and they get crazy for whatever that is. I didn't get all nutty for the Twilight books but I did enjoy them well enough and look forward to the rest of the movies. No need to denigrate the people who are crazy tho - we all have our weaknesses.

Twlight was the first movie I ever became a critical reviewer for. If the acting was that atrocious to make me hate the movie with a passion on that alone, there is no way that movie should be a box office record breaker.
My friend has read the books and watch the movies, and she says both aren't that great; but she enjoys the series just for the story alone.
Last time I checked, the story alone doesn't make a movie worth the admission. Heck, the story isn't everything that special and she had to explain it to me because I couldn't get it into my head because of how terrible the actors presented the movie to me. Whats the point of spending money on a cast if you have the world greatest story and you can just judge a movie on that alone?
The movies are a joke and the fact that it's breaking box office records because women want to pay for crap just too see this Edward fella is showing the stunt in the progression of mankind.

Have you ever taken a gander at porn? Because it's basically the male equivalent of escapist romance novels.

I think you two are trying to downplay your love for the series. I don't know many people who would read a couple thousand pages of "good enough fluff read" once, let alone twice.

The author is devout mormon. This is kind of a raging debate on the thing, because girls who like it dont want to hear they just read mormon prop, but ya... it is.
Simply google twilight mormon and it assumes the next word is "propaganda".

Ditto. If my GF is being inundated with Mormon propaganda I'd like to know about it.

Expect her to soon start abstaining from sex.
Apart from that ... no big deal.
