Has anyone here actually read the books? I've heard they are awfully written, but I don't know if those people have actually opened one up. I'm not interested in reading them, I am just curious.
I read half a page of one of the books, but started laughing and making teenage vampire impressions, so it was snatched away from me as I was clearly not taking it seriously enough.
I also watched part of the first movie (as she got it from Netflix) and it was seriously some of the worst acting I have ever seen in my life. I only managed to watch half though, so perhaps there was something more to it....but I doubt it.
I understand this image has been posted in multiple spots before, but I just can't get over the awesomeness of it.
If people think of Twilight all day I can understand, because I think of this picture and just laugh and enjoy myself.

This is how Buffy the Vampire Slayer would take care of Edward Cullen!
I have had no desire to watch or read the Twilight series. I like my vampires evil and hilarious, give me Spike any day.

My sister liked the books (she's in the target demographic) and liked them. Saw the movie and said it was terrible.
My wife borrowed the first book from my sister and said it was an easy read and the writing was decent, but the story was meh. She has no idea how these women in their 30s-40s+ are enthralled by it.

In terms of other popular fiction I've heard that Harry Potter is well written. And I can believe that because a wide range of people read those books. Dan Brown can at least tell an interesting (albeit, predictable) story. And while I wouldn't call his writing bad, it certainly wouldn't win any literary prizes, pedestrian is probably the word to describe it.
I'm kinda ashamed to admit that I've read the whole series twice. I wouldn't say it's great writing, but I also don't think they're horribly written - they're about what you would expect from a series written for teenage girls.
The movies on the other hand (well, I've only seen the first one) - absolutely horrible...some of the worst acting I've ever seen, lol.
I can't remember if it was linked to on here before (if it was, it was probably by Captain Crunch who often posts good stuff from Cracked), but I loved this synopsis of the entire series.

I'm lucky. My wife watched the first movie on Movie Central a few weeks ago and said it was boring. That ended my association with Twilight right there. (Until my 10 year old daughter reaches puberty).
I keep asking the girls at work what Twilight is... after they make fun of me for not knowing what's it's all about, I then ask them which side they're on... Team Humphrey or Team Q-Bert. They get mad and promptly correct me that those aren't the names in the movie. Perhaps not, but they should be, and they then should go gay with each other. That would put the series in a nice chaotic tailspin amongst millions of obsessed female fans.
You guys should get your wives reading these books. It is what the True Blood TV show is based on. They are great and there is still a bit of romance in them. My wife loves them.
We just don't do it quite so openly. You don't think men love watching movies like Mean Girls or Fired Up etc for the hot young tang? Of course we do. Men all over drool over Miley Cyrus and before her Hilary Duff, Britney Spears and all the other famous females that were under 18.
Men in general just don't get together in large groups to ogle women in public. We go to strip clubs or night clubs to do that.
When men get together to act like total obsessed fools we do it for other men. Usually sports teams or Star Wars.

Ummmm, I don't.
If I want hot young tang I am more in the mood for Jenna Haze or Aurora Snow rather than spending 90mins watching a terrible chick flick...

I'm sorry but at what point did you become the official generalization for all men worldwide?
I must say I agree though. Why sit thru some stupid movie just for some chick in her panties? I guess for a lot of guys it is the only legal way to watch a 16-17 year old in her bra and panties acting like a horny schoolgirl. That and the actresses are usually famous.
