Twilight Sucks - My Life is Twilight
I can't judge the tween/teen girls who love Twilight. They don't know any better. It's the 20, 30, 40+ middle aged women who gush about these books in my office that are driving me insane. They generally seem like smart people. I don't get how they're attracted to a series about a 100 year old, shiny vampire who hits on underage girls. If you were 100 years old would you still want to go to high school everyday?
This site is good for a laugh. That is, if you like laughing at the pathetic lives of people who seem to revolve their lives around a series of books and movies.

Ugh, dude, I've been having to deal with Twilight for months now....ever since my girlfriend discovered it, its been running her life, and ruining mine. She read all four books in under 2 weeks, read them again, lined up for the movies, enthralled by all the blogs....I basically lost contact with her for a good month there. This is a smart, normal girl, who has been totally taken over.
And god forbit you make fun of it....they take it so seriously that it's a cardinal sin to even poke fun at it's obvious teenage puppy-love premise....because apparently it's a universal story that is loved by everyone.
I can't wait till the whole cast gets rabies.

I don't know... I'm kind of liking the knee-high, 3" heel black leather "vampire" boots that my wife is seriously considering... But I think it is more of a True Blood / Vampire Hunter / Black Dagger thing for her.

Has anyone here actually read the books? I've heard they are awfully written, but I don't know if those people have actually opened one up. I'm not interested in reading them, I am just curious.
In terms of other popular fiction I've heard that Harry Potter is well written. And I can believe that because a wide range of people read those books. Dan Brown can at least tell an interesting (albeit, predictable) story. And while I wouldn't call his writing bad, it certainly wouldn't win any literary prizes, pedestrian is probably the word to describe it.

I was a big fan of the whole Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel series because for the most part, Vampires were outright evil, ugly and destructive, except for the whole getting a soul and failling in love with the Slayer stupidity.
At least in that series, if a Vampire had to listen to some whiny chick for days at a time they would rip out her throat, shower in her blood and leave her dead and not a vampire.
Except for the whole Buffy being whiny thing.

Mrs. Impaler read the books (or at least 1 or 2) and reports the writing to be mediocre. I thought Harry Potter was very well written, but I think the editing got worse towards the end, as I assume they were rushing them to market, so that they could cash in.

I thanked you out of pity, I know this feeling, the GF is just reading the books right now. Thus far I have managed to veto watching the movie and have secured an agreement, in writing, that assures me that should my defenses break down and I be forced into watching the current film, or the new one, I am guaranteed a flask of 18 year old scotch which I will be permitted to smuggle into the theater as well as "future considerations."

my wife has read the books and seen the movies, but she knows it's schlock so she expects me to make fun of it. She was laughing at the ######s in the theatre who kept squealing and shouting out the one characters name.

Mrs Bagor is similar. She read the first one to see what it was all about. Said it was ok, then stopped at the second which she just said was brutal.
I watched the DVD of the first and would recommend it to anyone that's lost their desire to live.
I can see how it would appeal to teenage girls but beyond that
