I was with a private tracker for over two years before they closed down. It sucks, because I got all cozy and complacent and then one day found myself having to use public trackers... yeesh.

I've been using giganews and grabit for about five years now - I usually average around 900-1200 kb/s and there isn't usually anything I can't find. Fast and private.
Google slylock's page for a tutorial on how to get started on newsgroups if you're interested.

I just started on Giganews and with Shaw Extreme I average 1.5 - 2 Mbits/sec. Also picked up newsleecher with the super search feature for an easy pain free experience.
The first rule of newsgroups is you don't talk about newsgroups.

I'm using Sabnzbd+ with the SabnzbdX menu for it. I was using Unison, but my avg speed with that is around 500k, while I routinely hit 1700-2200k with Sab.
Now I just need a decent nzb site for Mac stuffs...
Edit: Err, I mean... There's no such thing as a newsgroup. (See: Newsgroups Rule #1)

Anybody experiencing weird behaviour from TPB?
When I try to browse "latest", I only get 1 entry and the main panel's sides are covered with banner ads. very strange.
Just wondering if anyone else is getting the same resulsts as I am.
I don't think it's my IE8 because all other sites seem to be normal.

IE (any version) is the single worst thing to have ever happened to the internet.

So, after a bit of reflection, I realized that the only "out of the ordinary" instance that has occured with my PC of late, is the Freakin' MS update I downloaded about 2 days ago.
So I installed the latest version of FireFox, went to the TPB site and...Voila!!....No Problem!....It's just like it was before the update.
I don't really like change, but I'm seriously considering getting rid of IE as FireFox is not that much different but seems to be Better.

You'll never look back.
After you install it, spend an hour downloading add-ons for it from mozilla.

I wouldn't get rid of IE, just don't use it unless you have to as a last resort.
