Wow. Pity anyone who lives up here in the Springside/West Springs/Strathcona/Cougar Ridge/Wentworth area. All of the hills are skating rinks. Even 85th and 69th are farked. This is perhaps the worst I've ever seen it. Leaving work early and brand new studded winter tires FTW.

Damn it's slippery out there. Even with 4x4, winter tires and sandbags I was still slipping a bit. I feel sorry for the suckers in light cars with crappy tires.

On a different note, I got home and walked my dog. TBQH, I felt safer in my truck. I almost bailed three times because my dog loves snow and pulls on the leash so hard. And she's only 40 lbs.

Oh mid 60*s here today. But the idiots that are behind a wheel down here dont make it any better.

These guys drive like its the daytona 500 when its dry out and once a drop of rain hits the window they drive like they are going thru a blizzard Lots I mean LOTS of wrecks down here.

I feel sorry for the ones who are smart enough to park it in or ditch it on the curb (like the lady in the VW bug who gave up and got out of the way), but some moron in a crappy old car was insisting on trying to spin his way all the way up the 85th SW hill one inch at a time. I'm not sure if the burning smell was his tires or his transmission. But I guess the guy in the minivan with bald tires who tried to pass him was probably the worse idiot.

Boy, it feels great to be self righteous.

Sirocco Drive seems to be a luge run right now as well... and from what we have heard, so is Bow trail coming down the hill - watched someone do a 360 down the hill.

Sounds like a good night to have stayed home and watched the hockey game. Hope the flatlanders have the good sense to stay in their hotel rooms and drink the Pil.

For those of you who know arenas in this city, I left my house by Don Hartman (NESS) after the first period of the flames game...it is now 7:25 and I haven't even got to 4th St NW on my way to ref a double header at Triwood.

I'm just over half way there and it has taken 1:45.

Sometimes I really hate this city. Left my Southport office at 4, now somehow I am sitting in a restaurant just off banff coach hill road 3 hours later. Worst roads and traffic I have ever seen.

Where the hell are the sanders? I have been told to stay home and that she's found a ride at work.

That hill is madness. If you have to stay in the left lane. I slid down the right lane the entire way using my tires turned right into the curb to break and stop myself from hitting the subaru in front of me who was doing the same thing. Parked in the parking lot at the bottom of the hill and walked back up and home to safety and sanity. Last I saw it was backed up at least to 16th ave and there were 3 cars (an suv and 2 vans) all snuggled together at the top of the hill at the intersection with 23rd ave.

Still haven't even crossed 4th. Have been sitting in the same spot for the last 15 minutes without moving. These are the times I wish for a 4x4 so I could get up on the curb and go around. Now I just want to make it the 29 feet to the next street so I can turn around and go home. This just plain sucks!

Wow, I've never seen it like that before. And I've been driving that hill every single week for 5 years now.

In this case, I can see that it might be difficult to get the sanders out. The weather hit right at the start of rush hour. I'm wondering, though, if maybe they can't start getting creative with things. Like, allowing the new shopping mall at 85th and 17th to go out and sand/salt the hill beside the mall. (And same for malls or businesses in other areas.) Or putting sand barrels along the hill up Bow Trail. Things like that.

I'm not even sure if something like that's occurred to people.
