I like being able to buy parts for my PC from different suppliers for the absolute most bang for my buck.

Are you able to buy a bunch of different parts for the Mac from different retails and build your own yet? I honestly don't know and that's why I have never gotten a Mac.

I dont think you can, but a mac person could probably explain better. i think that both sides have their benefits... cheap upgrades you can shop around, but mac also has their own parts for their own machines so glitches and weird issues dont arise nearly as much

I think people have this crazy notion that you need to purchase a Mac Pro and a 30" display in order to 'buy a mac' and get the Mac experience.

The new macbooks are great computers and are definitely competitively priced.

Mac OS is much better but I dont understand the hardware. For a $2,000 Imac, you can get a PC au $800-1000 will more balls in hardware. Basically you are paying $1,000 extra for the OS and cosmetics.

a 2,000 iMac comes with a huge screen and a ballsy processor, and a lot of software to boot.

but i agree, macs are at least 25% more expensive

Most people don't purchase the $2000 model. It's the top of the line iMac, and geared toward the upper echelon of computing consumers who are not quite pro users yet.

Considering that 90% of people who need an entry level computer such as an iMac need it for 3 things (email, personal media and internet browsing), I don't think they would notice the difference in hardware performance.

For an entry level iMac, you're getting a great computer, a beautiful monitor, and an-all-in one solution that comes with everything.

My only real Apple experience is using iTunes for my iPhone and the clunkiness of that program has stopped me from becoming any more serious about a Mac.

I'm aware they dont sell monitors but that doesn't make the Apple ones not part of a mac vs pc discussion, now does it?

I received an upgraded laptop from work on Thursday with 7 on it. So far, it's an operating system. It's got some interesting looks and a couple of features which are kind of neat. For example I think I'm warming to how they changed the toolbar where I can just pin application to it instead of having a separate toolbar to launch apps. The Mac people might go "pffft, we've had that for years" (I have no idea, I don't Mac) but it's new to me.

Under the hood I think 7 is improved a bunch. I liken Vista to Windows ME. Both whiffed as an O/S and seem to both be followed up by a good O/S.

For the Mac argument, it'll always be there and while I think it's good lots of good things but by no means do I think it's fantastically better than Windows. They both have their places. The Apple ads do seem very Pepsi to Microsoft's Coke to me though and lots of the "arguments" in the ads don't hold true to me. If you like your Mac O/S, great. If you like Windows, great. Too much breathe is spent discussing them and too much hang wringing goes on over the comparisons.

iTunes and the iTunes store are more distinct than that...

List your monitor model. I'll bet it's a cheaper than than a Mac one.

It's not like Apple makes proprietary panels...

The monitor discussion is silly. Your comparing your Samsung which most likely is a cheap TN panel to a IPS panel. They do make IPS panels for PC's too you know that look just as good or better than the Mac monitor. Your probably also "wowed" by it's overly glossy screen. Oooooh so shiny.

I think it's remarkable that the only thing people are picking up on is the monitor comment. Simply astonishing.

Few examples of some small thing that drive me crazy about 7
The side bar is now just stuff you attach to your desktop. great, but, I can't even choose to have it stay on top of everything. Only way to see is it is to minimize to the desk top. They didn't even give the option of bringing up a 'dashboard' style view that they have on mac. Losing functionality... breathtaking.

The taskbar/quicklaunch has been melded into one big mess, and I can't even choose to use the old style taskbar. Visit a website that blocks your usual buttons and you have to use the start menu to open a new window or right click the quick launch, totally defeating the purpose of the quick launch area. Why are we losing options and functionality as we move forward?

The only improvements I like so far is when you open "libraries" it's a really smart way to sort folders and files. Otherwise this is windows vista with some back end fixes, loss of options and customization, and a further move towards mac style that just isn't working with the typical windows environment.

Hover over the rectangle in the lower right corner that activate the show desktop feature, click one and it will minimize all open windows, click again and it reverse it. The windows shortcut for this is windows key-D.

Every web browser uses the shortcut CTRL-N to open a new window, and CTRL-T to open a new tab. I don't see the problem with using the Start menu especially with the search feature, just type the name and enter.
