dang that texas kicker has a cannon for a leg.... I am glad I just had surgery yesterday and am on a lot of pain killers...
They make me happy even though OU has blown this game and should be 20-3

Well I consider one of the most exciting games I have ever seen was the OU vs BSU fiesta bowl a couple of years ago..
But then you got teams like Bama who failed to show up.

I don't get it.
What kills me is that this year, the two best teams probably have a 1% chance of ending up playing each other in that game. One of them will lose in the SEC championship and be done.
|
Why aren't the two best teams the teams that were strong from start to finish? Not the two teams that are the hottest at the end of the season? And don't say "because that's how pro sports do it" because there's a huge difference between 30 pro teams and 119 1A teams.
And how does that scenario kill you? Each team has their chance to win on a neutral field. Why should there be a rematch considering one just proved they were the better team?

I'm not saying there should be a rematch considering that scenario. In a playoff system they could be seeded 1 and 2 and have the best chances to play each other as that conference championship game would be eliminated.
What I am saying is that the NC game this year stands a great chance of being a letdown because most of the country will know that the real NC game was back in December at the SEC championship.
Wouldn't the two best teams start to finish still be the two best teams in a playoff scenario? I mean, are there some teams with poor starts this year that you think will be as good as Florida in December?

Jim Tressel's conservative decision making absolutely kills the Buckeyes year after year.
Down 23-7 with 12 minutes in the 4th quarter and he's kicking a FG on 4th and goal from the 2.
This isn't the NFL here - grow a pair, Jim.

Horrible.
Pinning Purdue on the 1 yard line if you don't get the TD is a pretty favorable scenario in my book.

His seater vest is getting tighter and tighter every game that Pryor plays for him. that kid needs to be put at WR he is a horrid QB. This would be like putting Gio in net every game because hes fast.

Yeah....nice to see Ohio St. lay a big egg thus far.
12 minutes left... they have 6 1st downs, 5 turnovers and 8 penalties.
Against freakin Perdue.
Big 11 is such a mediocre conference the last couple years.

But aren't we confusing the hottest team with the best team?
A playoff more often than not decides who the hottest team is not who the best overall team is.
The main issue with a playoff is that an 8-team leaves out quality teams (last year one of Texas, Bama, or Utah would've been left out) and that a 16-team playoff lets teams lose 3 times and still have a chance at the NC.
Look at this Ohio State/Purdue game. If Ohio State loses it's basically irrelevant because they can still win out or even lose again and they're in the playoffs. They might be a lower seed, but wouldn't they have to beat Florida/Bama/Texas at some point to win the playoffs?

UT finally scored a TD in the turnover rivalry.

Exactly. All they need is a quick 3 and out and they most likely have the ball back on the 40. Even then, there's the potential for a safety and a punt block backed up that deep.

Not with the system I would use.
I don't like those scenarios either....and yeah, it is not going to change.
I would have the following playoff participants:
1 each from:
PAC 10
Mountain West
WAC
Big 12 North
Big 12 South
Big 10
SEC East
SEC West
ACC
Big East
Conference USA
MAC
4 at large

So it's a problem that the current system encourages teams to have weak schedules, but you let the MAC and C-USA winners in?
And how do you let both the Big 12 South/North and SEC East/West winners in? If that was the system, every major conference splits up into 2 divisions and there's a massive issue.

I recall you last season whining about the Cardinals playing in the Superbowl.
Were they the second best team in the NFL last season?

Yeah, that's what I was hoping to accomplish. Expand the PAC-10 and Big -10. They won't let schools in in the current environment. Don't you think Boise St, at this point, fits in with the PAC-10?
In any case, it's a 4 round playoff. The MAC champion isn't going to win it all. But, they might gain some recruiting prowess and slowly, over time, we end up with 30 great college football programs instead of 6.
