From CFCN:
http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...ub=CalgaryHome
Police responded to over 200 collisions and EMS was called to over 30 crashes between 6:00 a.m. and noon.
Kind of cheating, but I'm guessing the count will be 248

22X and Deerfoot in the SE was just wet, no ice. Even 52nd street and it's ilk near McKenzie Towne was pretty clean. Tomorrow should be a piece of cake.

And considering the forecast after tomorrow it should be all gone soon.

Driving into Calgary today I noticed the Deerfoot extension was closed off. Could see there was bad accident in the distance. Found out some 20 year old gal from High River lost control of her truck on some ice and skidded into the sothbound lanes where she was broadsided by a semi. Heard she died at the scene. I suspect our local paper will have more news on the gal that was killed. Too young to die.

If this city would build upwards and stop building outwards, we wouldn't have more and more streets to add to the problem of snow removal every year straining the system.

I hope so! Have a tee time for both Friday and Saturday at Nanton. Would be nice to get in another round or 2 before she closes for the winter.

Had a small snowfall here in Britain last winter. The ENTIRE country shut down. Planes were grounded, trains canceled, government offices closed. I think there was around 3 inches of snow. Was treacherous to walk as no one shovels their sidewalks. Funny to see though.

been snowing in Pincher Creek for a week, highways suck sometimes but man am I glad I don't work in Calgary...evey year, just bobbles my mind
I used to drive a Volvo 242GT with studded winters and a welded diff, never EVER had any trouble...there just needs to be more driver training when getting your licence, more vehicle control training like the finn's do.

I find this whole thing kinda amusing. I left for work at my normal time yesterday, and my 35 minute commute was almost 8 minutes longer than normal.
My sister in law, who has a 15 minute commute, sat in standstill traffic for 2 hours before giving up and going home. Of course when she got home, her garage door in her apartment complex decided it was going to crush her car for her, since it apparently has a slight defect of closing really fast when it is cold out... but thats another story.

I think today will be a lot worse for accidents than yesterday. The roads are much worse in my opinion. Anyone know the official count yesterday? I think it was close to 400? That seems insanley high to me. Usually it's around 200 if I recall correctly.
Anyway, I like working at 7am. It usually only takes me 5 or 10 extra minutes to get to work on days like this. And the Hakka's just eat the snow up!

I know people should have winter tires and all that. However, I am still dumbfounded how a major roadway like Glenmore trail can be allowed to be in such shata condition at the start of rush hour.

Unless the Hakkas are capable of driving overtop of the old ladies going 20 kph on Glenmore this morning, they're not going to help anyone with a Glenmore commute.

Meh, I was on Glenmore at 6:15am and traffic wasn't that terrible. There was a bit of volume, and I saw one truck turned the wrong way in the guard rail at deerfoot, but that was about it.
