I agree. Seems to me the people who like S&P always order stuff like quesadillas, I find their food to be overpriced for what it is. But at least they serve enchiladas verdes and echiladas mole. More than I can say for Julios.

Mi Tierra is good, but not quite as great as you'd get down south.

Calgary just isn't a Mexican food city.

At dinner, I think you're talking in the ballpark of $13-$15 for 2 small enchiladas (with beans and rice) and no free chips. Been a while.

Juan's is also locally owned and it's better than Salt and Pepper, IMO. Plus they have really good tequila, and hot girls who will teach you how to salsa after dinner.

I've never tried Brewster's wings, what makes them so good?

I like going out for Dim Sum. Harbour City downtown and the restaurant outside the TnT at the Franklin Mall are both very good.

Harbour City is phenomenal. It's open late, too. I think Imperial Palace is the other place that has pretty good Dim Sum downtown.

Are the maggots a "secret menu item?"

I hear good things about a Mexican joint in SW (Oakridge) but I forget the name of it.

Salsita (formerly Boca Loca) on Northmount Drive NW is a great mexican grocery/deli.

You can't go wrong with Smugglers, not the swankiest atmosphere but the food is fantastic! They are currently doing renovations so I'm sure they will update it from the 70s bilge hole that it is today.

The Bears Den is a great place. Good food, amazing wine list, usually good live music (tailored to an older crowd). A little out of the way for me as I'm a southy, but never disappointed when I make the trek.

The Ranche is a beautiful little restaurant. If you are looking for a nice romantic setting this is a winner. Enjoying a nice bottle of wine while watching deer grazing in Fish Creek Park will keep me coming back. Nice candle lit atmosphere.

Add to the list: Los Mariachis on McLeod Trail near Heritage: a good place to go for lunch on a weekday. Service can be spotty though as they don't have much staff.

It's one of our favourites. as mentioned before, it's an older crowd, but we go there to enjoy a meal, not to check out who's there.

That's the one. That's freaky, odd occurrence though. I've been there dozens of times and the food's always been good.

Re: Salt & Peepper, I've only been once, but what I found hilarious was the menu. Where you can order from Los Main Courses and Los Desserts.

Not sure when you went to Kinjo. My wife went there about 2 years ago and found it terrible. We went there again not too long ago and she said it was like night and day. We've been back several times and the sushi's been great.

Damn!! I used to live in Strathcona + Coach Hill and that was the only place we'd get 'za from. May have to dig around to see where they moved too.

Found it...guess it had a name change + new ownership...Jeanne's Pizza....http://findmenus.ca/jeannesPizzaPantry.php
