If you're a dude, your name likely ends with 'ov' (kind of like 'son'). For chicks, you get an 'a' added, making 'ova'. Nice drunk post, by the way.

Uhhhh... yeah......I am aware that a lot of names end that way. But, that's like saying names in Canada end with "son". A lot of good hockey players from Canada have names that end in "son", but probably not as equivalent to the same amount of good female tennis players from eastern Europe that end with nova or ova. Also, if that's so common, why aren't there a bunch of hockey players from eastern Europe with last names ending "ova" or "nova"?

Uhhh.... there's lots of Russian hockey players whose names end in "ov." There aren't any "ovas" in hockey because "ova" is the female equivalent of the suffix "ov."
Also, Canada is much more ethnically diverse than Russia, hence a lot of "ovs" and "ovas" from Russia, and fewer "sons" from Canada.

I do wonder about the same thing you do Buzzard... Does the last name change to ova from ov when its a girl?

Yes, Maria Sharapova's father is Yuri Sharapov. Sergei Kournikov is Anna Kournikova's father.

Not limited to Russia either. Czechs and what not seem to be included. Wasn't Martina Navaratilova Czech or soemthing?

What steely was talking about applies to Russians (and maybe Ukraina).
Czechs have it different. "ova" is added for women, but nothing is added for men. So Maratina's father would be Navratil, not Navratilov
However, woman's surname can also end in simply "a" not "ova". For example, another former czech tennis player Jana Novotna. You can't substract "ova" because it's not there. So her father would be Novotny.
Now I too need a drink.
