I disagree. Tiger is the face of PGA golf and when he talks people tend to listen. His point in regards to the offical was a valid one and hopefully it leads to discussion about tweaking some of the rules to avoid another situation like we had on Sunday.
I had wondered why Padrig chunked his chip shot and am disappointed to hear he was rushed. It ruined what would have been a great finish to the tournament

Harrington is notoriously slow, rules are rules.
Being in the final group doesn't give a player the right to purposely slow his opponent down.

Reading the lines between Woods comments, I think he'd have rather won on merits as opposed to Padrig rushing and making a mistake.

Agreed.
Tiger said pretty much the only thing he could say.
He can't say "yeah yeah he was slow, glad they caught him".
But the official was correct and the stoopid media shouldn't ask Tiger such a question.

Tiger Woods cleared the air Tuesday, saying he was not fined for critical remarks about a rules official during the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational.
Woods was responding to a PGA Tour official who told The Associated Press on Monday that he would be fined for his comment.
"I've heard from the tour, and there's no fine," Woods said. "That was an erroneous report."

Golfers in the past have complained about the slow pace of play. Tiger would have said the same thing if he felt it affected his game.

The media asked a great question. Rules are sometimes tweaked for the better through discussions.
I think the official was over blowing the whole situation. It wasn't like they were an hour or 2 behind. He could have used some discretion.considering it was the final pairing of the final round.

He didn't have to say 'I'm sorry that John (the course official) got in the way of a great battle' at the end of the match to Harrington.

There is a difference between coming out and naming an official for a poor decision and saying you would like the rule changed.
I think Tiger could have gotten the exact same message across in a better manner. Even though it is a stupid call it is still the rules and the official was just following that.
I fully agree the official ruined the last few holes however the PGA should stand behind their officials when they are following the rules of the game.

Tiger Woods: You're not fining me are you?
Tim Finchem: Well, Tiger... You know, you didn't really have to comment on...
Tiger Woods: Nahhhh, you're not fining me.
Tim Finchem: I don't know, if we don't fine you then that sets a prece.....
Tiger Woods: Nahhhh... Tim, come on guy.
Tim Finchem: Oh fine. Just win the PGA Championship and Fed Ex Cup for us please, ok?

Naming the official involved adds more credibility to the argument. People are naturaly going to want to know who made the call.
It maybe the rules but at the same time one can be flexable. For example if i'm out playing golf and there's a group behind me i'm going to make sure I maintain a proper pace of play and to keep up with the group ahead of me. On the other hand if no one is behind me my playing time might slip as I will be concentrating more on my shots. I have yet to meet a course marshall who told groups to speed up when no one is playing behind them.

Yes, but you are playing a on a Saturday morning not an $8M purse tournament where things need to be fair. Else people are going to ask why some players are getting special treatment. Just because you are in the last group doesn't entitle you to a different set of rules, does it?

I think most golfers would agree with what Tiger has said. There's a difference between finishing out the round as opposed to being neck and neck for the tournament win. I somehow doubt some other golfer is going to complain because it took the Woods/Harrington group a little extra time to finish. Most were probably enjoying the drama of the finish.

I'm with Tiger on this one. They are in the final group so they aren't holding anyone else up. If Tiger wasn't being bothered by the delay, then let them play it out. No one ahead of them was in the running, so it isn't a case of them getting a benefit over someone who had already finished. I would think any sport would love to have its superstar in a tight race for the win, and judging by the TV ratings I'm sure the network would have loved to see it last as long as possible.

I agree with what Tiger was trying to say but I don't agree he should call out an official by name. That is my only problem with this.
It looks even worse that the PGA comes out and says the rules say he should get fined but we aren't going to do it. If Harrington says the exact same thing his bank account is down $10K today.

Sounds to me like the official made comments to the associated press before making sure there was actually going to be a fine. Also makes me wonder if the PGA ruled it wasn't a breakage of the rules - who knows.

I'm headed to Minneapolis tomorrow to visit my brother for a week or so. Since the PGA Championship is being held there we looked into getting tickets. We were shocked to find out that they only sold passes for the entire tournament and that the cost was $325. Sadly we won't be going after all

I'd go check out near the grounds. I have a buddy go for only a Friday in Augusta one year when he made a stop over.

That's a great idea. Maybe we can get some days passes at the course itself

My university Alumni association sent out an offer to go see next year's Saturday round at Augusta. Airfare, transfers, lodging, 2 rounds of golf (not at Augusta, another local course) and one pass to Saturday's Masters - $5K and change per person.

I volunteered for the Byron Nelson a few years ago. Had a great time, got to meet Nelson himself. Of course, Woods goes and misses the cut for the first time in years.
