It's coming down pretty good over here in the SE (near peigan tr). The lightning is pretty cool. A couple pretty awesome cracks of thunder. I love thunderstorms!
I'm also thankful i have underground parking.

Is anyone actually seeing the lightning? Or just the sky going bright? I'll go out, i just need reassurance it'll be worth my time.

Was driving home on Memorial, just started to rain big time. Forgot I hated when it rains really hard when I am driving.

Down in Copperfield it's just the "cloud to cloud" kind of lightning. Which is fine by me- last night was a little scary.

I'll stick to my regular garage. I've seen this happen a few times...

That thunderstorm would have been my very first Western Canada thunderstorm, if I had not have slept through it. My poor mother, who is also new to the province, did not.
(ps this is my first time in calgary, first post, first calgary forum, if someone could be proud of me it would really boost my self esteem, thanks).

Apparently we are in for a bad week. Calling for a lot of rain every day and if it keeps up like it's going right now, flooding won't be a surprise. For the past twenty minutes up near the University it's been an all-out pour fest.

Is it true that hiding under a tree is the worst thing you can do to protect yourself from getting hit by lightning?

Who's responsibility is it to remove the downed tree? The tree is from his neighbour's property so I'm assuming it's the landowner's responsibility. Or will the city remove it since it's blocking half the street?

Went to BC for the weekend and when I got back last night I had to drive a friend home to Bowness. It looked like a war zone up there.

^ Hurricane force winds upwards of 120km per hour. I don't normally get awoken by anything, including downpours, so I knew it was bad when the wind woke me up. Yeah, there are tree branches snapped off everywhere around here and leaves all scattered about in the roads.

Yes, Lightning strikes the highest point possible, so if you stand next to a tree, you are standing right next to a higher point that you are.
If you are in a field, hit the dirt.
