I got that too but it didn't stop me from setting up and using the tethering. I think it's just a default message the first time you access the settings.

I have a question about the new push notifications. Does each app have to create an updated version that allows for that, or should I just be seeing changes happen? Because I've turned it on, and I have yet to see anything.

Keep your finger on the marker, but slide it down a little; this turns on half speed scrubbing mode, allowing for more finely tuned selections. Go a bit further down, and you enter quarter speed scrubbing mode. If you drag the marker upward instead, scrubbing becomes less granular.
As someone who likes to listen to audio books where each file can be multiple hours, this is amazing.

I have never heard of this. My god. If we were in the same room together I would totally give you a heterosexual open palmed slap on the ass. That is brilliant.

Meh...
Updated, 3.0 now.
Now I have to jailbreak and reinstall everything again.
Not sure it was worth it really.

Yeah the app would have to be changed to support it.

So... Thinking of a way to get the 3GS...
What about finding someone who is about to sign a new 3 year contract, and then giving them my white 16GB 3G for free, in exchange for letting me pay for (and keep) the 16GB 3GS they would have gotten with their contract?
So basically, all they have to do is sign a new contract and they get a free 16GB 3G and I pay for (and keep) the subsidized 3GS...
Does that sound like a fair deal?

I found a link today that listed all the current apps that use push ... There was only about 8 of them and 5 were "coming soon" (such as the espn one).

Other people seem to have access to the iPhone Tethering menu, despite getting that message. I'm going to try a full restore and see if that helps.

You're aware of your problem. Now you have to deal with it.
The 3GS is great but is it really that much better than the 3G. Do you need to take better pictures and video? Need the compass for anything important?

We may be interested in that. Can it be done? How would it work as far as activating and stuff?
My wife says she would be happy with the 3G and I was thinking of getting a 3Gs. If you can confirm this can be done we can talk.

Just be careful, I read one report about someone who used to have 2 different phones (iPhone and BB), same carrier. He used to swap SIMs around all the time, but with the 3.0 firmware he said it didn't work anymore.
Just something to be aware of, try things out or find out if this is going to be a problem, or if it was just buggy authentication because of the big demand for 3.0.
But yeah, I've thought of this method as well.
The other way would be to sell your current phone unlocked, seems there's still a demand for that.

That's the way guys like me who like to be on the falling edge of technology like to do, wait for the people who want the new shiny things sell there old things, and since I'm always a little behind, getting the old stuff seems new to me.
I figure now that the 3GS is coming out, maybe it's time to jump on the 3G bandwagon, just have to see what's available and for what cost.

The 3gs really is for certain people. For me I use my 3g constantly as an ipod and a map, so the added storage, battery life and compass will immediately solve my biggest 3 gripes with the phone. If those things aren't of big importance to you then I'm sure you could do without.
I'd be lying if I said the 3.0 update didn't take the piss out of the 3gs for me a little bit. I was always aware of what the differences were, but seeing all those changes had me drunk on upgrading. I still want to, but suddenly I find my complaints about the 3g cut in half.
One massive thing for me is genius. I absolutely adore it. I'm the kind of person that will download 10 really good albums but not give them a fair listening to. My itunes library is filled to the teeth with great albums I've never heard. Find a good song I like, throw on genius and suddenly i'm treated to hours of awesome music I already own but haven't discovered yet. Genius on an 8 gig iphone kinda blows for obvious reasons. A 32 gig iphone on the other hand ...

anyone ever tried doing the chat w/ the live person at the rogers site? It always seems to be "sara" and seems like its some sorta bot! Always the same canned answers, never seems to deviate from the script. Kind of annoying.

You're probably right... I do like the 2x RAM and faster processor, though.
I'm the opposite of Russic on this one. Before the update, I swore up and down that 3.0 on the 3G was going to be more than enough... now I'm reading the reviews on how much faster the 3GS is...

Fair enough. I've found myself listening to more podcasts than music these days. Maybe I'm getting too old.
The 3.0 updated definitely improved the 3G phone to the point where I won't be upgrading to the 3GS anytime soon.

I ahve been thinking of getting one of these, the monthly cost is still to much for me to accept from a cell phone.
That being said, the Rogers social Media guy twitted that said tethering is avialble to anyone with a 1GB data plan or over.
Also the 6gb for 30$ is available immediately until the end of the year.
Just FYI.
