I'm half done the final step. At least I think it's the final step. I downloaded the update, then it backed up my phone, disconnected somehow mid back up, backed up again and now it's on the silver apple screen with the progress bar.
I wonder if Rogers/Fido needs to do something to make mms work? Perhaps we have to?
So the update seems to have completed. I now have the connect to iTunes message on the phone, with emergency unlock option. When iTunes attempts to load the iPhone device page, it says it's trying to access the iTunes store. I get a message that the request could not be completed, that the network connection timed.
Any idea why I'm getting this error? I can't do anything on my phone. Please don't say it killed my phone!
Update:
It finally connected. Everything is working fine now!

Reason: Update
Downloaded Quickly, Installed, but when it restarted the phone it now shows the "Connect to iTunes" screen and iTunes pulls up a -4 Error "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occured"

Activation servers are apparently down. I get:
Quote:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.
I got that error message too, but it still downloaded to the phone. I just ejected the phone from itunes and everything works fine.
Just tried out "find my iphone" and it's bloody swank. Sending a message to it is a very cool feature. Too bad you can't assign a password to the settings page because if somebody stole your phone and knew what to do they could just turn off the setting. As it works now I'll have to assign a password to the whole phone, which isn't a big deal, but i'm in and out of my phone so much in the day it's one extra step I'd rather not take.
Is there a way around that with a jailbroken app like bossprefs or something?
Copy and paste rules ... this feature was badly missed but I won't complain now that it's here.
Love spotlight. If spotlight was the cute girl at the coffee shop I would do everything I could to seduce her and seed her womb. I've scrolled through so many emails over the last year it would drive a lesser man to tears.
Still trying to get tethering to work. Haven't paid much attention yet. Probably not a feature I'll use all that much, but I'm sure it'll be clutch when I need it. Edit: Now working over bluetooth. Scary easy to set up.
The shake to undo typing feature is pretty neat too. Again, more of a little tweak, but I can see myself using it. That being said the inclusion of copy and paste allows you to select chunks of text and delete them so it's possible i'll never use this feature.
Signing into an itunes account from the itunes store is a god send to those of us with 2 itunes accounts (American & Canadian). Less important now that the Canadian tv shows have been updated, but still necessary for certain shows not yet available (Dexter for example).
Me and my buddy have been MMSing each other on 3.0 for over a week now. It's probably been posted, but there's a pretty good 'unlimited mms/sms/ plan for $20/month.
Got it going, looks good so far. Anyone know what Rogers is charging for a MMS message if not on a plan? Or does it just not allow it to get sent? I am debating on whether I want to pay $5 to upgrade my plan for it.
Also, for anyone running a 500 mb plan that wants to tether, this link works well.
Scrub a song: Trying to jump to a certain point in an audio file (especially long ones like podcasts and audio books) sucks something fierce on the iPhone. It just never seems like you can find the right spot. 3.0 makes the process a lot less painful by way of the refined scrubbing system; just grab the little marker as you always would. Keep your finger on the marker, but slide it down a little; this turns on half speed scrubbing mode, allowing for more finely tuned selections. Go a bit further down, and you enter quarter speed scrubbing mode. If you drag the marker upward instead, scrubbing becomes less granular.
As someone who likes to listen to audio books where each file can be multiple hours, this is amazing.
