No ... the Challenger is available in both standard and automatic. In fact, I believe it's a Tremec trans.

When the SRT's first hit the streets, you could not get them in the manual...you could order them with the manual, but there was either supply or design problems.....
Also, the man 6 spd is bundled in with the rear posi and other things, I think its about a $3000 option.
Dodge loves their 5 spd auto trans because they build in a pretty heavy torque management in the ECM...it basically ######s power when the Trans is getting ready to shift....this slows them down alot.
Chev does this as well with their auto's but a good tuner can tone down the TM....last I heard, the ECM code for chrysler (daimler carryover) had not been cracked...this may have changed recently...but last I heard there was no aftermarket tunes available for chryco, just piggyback chips.
Not a problem on the shelby as Ford doesnt offer an auto in that bad boy. To bad they are having so many clutch/trans problems with the manuals though

Come on, seriously?

Now this is what the Charger should have been. The new charger is absolutely disgusting. It has the same back end from a Chrysler 300. What in the fack were they thinking?

Not sure what the newer models are like but since I've owned both a 1970 Dodge Challenger and a 1970 Camaro Z28 I can tell you about those cars.

1970 Challenger

Lots of power
Handled like crap
Cheaply built... lots of rattles
Tinny sound when you close the door.
Touchy brakes
Basically only good for going 0-60 in a straight line.
After 100 mph the front end really started to float (gets a little scary)

1970 Camaro Z28

Lots of power (actually had to install ladder bars on the rear axel to counter act the axel twist)
Handled real well ... very solid feeling through the curves
Roof continually cracked at the corner of the side window due to body torque
Doors sounded very solid when you closed them
Very few rattles

The Camaro was heads and tails the better car.
