Last years pre-orders are on the roads now, surprised you havent seen one....you'd be hard pressed to find one available for a test drive though...

0-60 times, of course they vary by tester, but the Shelby has a poor 0-60, but good trap speeds...
Shelby 0-60 - 4.6 seconds
Camaro 0-60 - 4.7 seconds
100 hp in difference, almost identical 0-60 times....if ford had put an independant rear suspension in that shelby, it would have been a really great car. I love the shelby, but it wouldnt have been my first choice.....alot of HP, no way to hook it up....
You could buy a 1ss camaro for around 40k, another 8K for a supercharger, and absolutely kill the shelby.....

I've seen a couple '09 Shelbys for 40K, on the same lot - they had quite a few of them though. Ford has seemed to have problems with getting Mustangs to hook up out of the box. Aftermarket suspension is very, very important for them.
I can't argue that an SS Camaro with an aftermarket supercharger would walk a GT500. However, you could say that about almost anything. For instance, if I dropped 8K into my car, I could go around hunting Z06s and Ford GTs.

I absolutely hate the new Mustang. I think it's a terrible looking car. One of the reasons the new Knight Rider sucks (should have been a Camero).
All these cars are pretty much the same American muscle, solid differential, good in a straight line and not on the curves but makes a real nice sound. Wait...I think Camero has independant suspension.
I would buy Camero. It's Canadian...oh wait. It's a Vauxhaull VXR - which is actually a Holden. That means the Camero is Australian.

Yeah, you think "Finally the Americans put independent suspension into a car!! ...oh wait, they got it from the Aussies." That is like saying "I have a rich celebrity wife...!!...but she is Sarah Jessica Parker"
Truth be told, all three of these cars are terrible. Cheap, crap in the corners, 2/3 of them don't look that good, interiors are dreadful.
When I first saw the Camaro on the internet I was stunned, looked awesome, wanted one. That was 4 or 5 years ago. This past year I saw one in the Auto Show. I was so disappointed. Truly ugly car, dreadful interior, only thing going for it is 400+HP.
On to the Mustang, it looks outdated now, and has no more of that "new muscle" feel to it. It weighs way way way too much, and is low on power compared to the other 2.
Out of the three I think the Challenger looks the best, it looks quite good actually. But it is a dodge, so terrible suspension and it weighs A LOT, I think close to 2 tonnes? Isn't as powerful as the Camaro, but it'd be the one I would get because it looks the best.
If you think I am being Anti-American on these cars I am just being honest.
For sake of this thread, Challenger wins.
How can people think the Camaro is good looking? Go see one in person, it is terrible. Front is squished, doors are too tall, windows are tiny, back end looks ridiculous with the tiny lights, the body is made of cheap plastic (push it in if you don't believe me). Then when you get inside you can't see out of the window because it is so stubby, but super wide. The interior is made up of the same plastic garbage they use for all their other cars (like my '06 Cobalt). Like I said, the only thing good is the engine.

If there is a dealer that is selling the shelby for 40K ( we are talking canadian) please let me know as this would be the deal of a century...14k+ discount off of msrp
The point I was getting at was all ford did was drop a supercharger on a 5.4 Litre truck block and borrow the heads from the GT and gave it to the Shelby.....If I took a supercharger and dropped it on the normally aspirated Camaro 6.3 Litre, it would destroy the Shelby.....no contest

PLUS, great gas mileage for a car like that, it averaged around 30 mpg. As my husband became more involved in the oil patch and more conservative in his ways, the color purple no longer appealed to him and he had it repainted it that deep British racing green.
When we bought it, we paid $3000 for it, and that was brand new price. We never had kids then and we took that car everywhere, was the only vehicle we had at that time. We got some looks when we were driving down the forestry trunk road and going camping with that vehicle.

This whole post just rules. The cool car, the story, the picture, the pricetag, the whole bit. Thanks.

I know this isn't the point of the thread (domestic muscle), but seeing as it's the new kid on the block, a competitor to these cars, and it's turning some heads... what are people's thought on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe? Does this car now enter into the equation for an enthusiast traditionally looking only at the domestic trio?
2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track
The Genesis Coupe might not carry the same legendary swagger as the domestics in the class, and the styling is ... well, hard to compare (I prefer the looks of the Challenger, myself). That said, I wonder what kind of chunk a car like the Genesis could take out of the incumbents' market share going forward. It sounds like an impressive performer for the price.

These things are weird looking.....not ugly, just weird.
Call me old fashioned, but its going to take awhile not to identify Hyundai with the 'Pony'...
The Genesis coupe does seem like good value, and gets surprisingly good ratings, I wouldnt buy one, but I'm sure that it will be a big moneymaker for Hyundai.

Looks fine to me, Genesis is the best bang for your buck sports coupe available. But being Hyundai it needs some time to see if it stays in one piece.

I would have more faith in Hyundai reliability than with a domestic. Hyundai is in the top 10 most reliable brands. They also have long warranties. I've just never liked any of Hyundai's styling. Boring and derivative. The Tiburon was not to my tastes and neither is the Genesis

The only cars in the junkyard newer than 2000 are KIA and Hyundai. They are garbage and if you beat on it like a sports car it would fall apart.

Yeah, that's definitely the biggest problem. I actually think that domestics actually have some fairly decent exterior styling concepts, but are always ruined by cheap materials and clunky interiors. There is too much focus on gimmicks and features, and not enough focus on materials, construction quality, and ergonomics.
If only they could do what a company like Volkswagen does, building a relatively affordable car that feels more expensive than it is, they could really make a turn around. The materials used in a Golf feel solid, clean, and considered....the materials in any domestic feel like they came out of a some random plastic parts tray that is also used to make baby strollers, trash cans etc.

Now why would you go and confuse things with US pricing and US availability??

I love the Challenger. Think it's the best looking American made car in 20 years.
That said, if I'm spending 45K on Muscle, I'm going to get the real deal, restored.

My only beef with the new Challenger, unless I'm mistaken, is that it is only available in automatic. Why try to revamp a classic and not have stick as an option? Btw, they are all amazing cars.
