CPer "Five-Hole" is a musician who at one point had links in his signature to a recording of his band covering F-Zero tunes.

I used to think Deerfoot had horrible traffic, then I moved to a few other major world cities. Calgary traffic is a dream compared to Sydney or New York, it's a relief to drive in rush hour back home as opposed to my usual commute, although some of the moves on Deerfoot are world class moronic.

This morning I saw a delivery van gun it in reverse across two lanes of traffic, into a parking lot on the other side of the street, before pulling a quick shift into drive and taking off in the other direction, all in the midst of heavy traffic. Seems the worse the traffic gets the stupider the people get.

After living DT for the last year, I've forgotten how frustrating Deerfoot can be. Lately, the people I want dead the most are people that hold up traffic trying to turn left over a double solid. This causes my a-hole streak to rear it's ugly head and I'll just plant my hand on my horn and not take it off until the person moves.

In my opinion this type of stuff happens on lots of roads in Calgary (i.e. Crowchild is pretty bad as well..)

Deerfoot however was never designed to handle the volume of traffic that is on it... Which has caused lots of problems....

Personally I have arranged my workday to avoid the rush hour problems on Deerfoot.

I like to leave a bit of space between myself and the next car as well. There are always those losers who wait until the last possible second to move out of the lane that is ending, even though they drive the Deerfoot every day.

Nice job, you just made it to work 20 seconds earlier. You're the man.

In regards to merging, or hell, even in a lane ending I think that waiting until the end is actually a very good practice.

It encourages both lanes to take turns, car for car, which is much faster than letting one lane roll free while the other is bottled up and can't get over.

Whats stupid is people moving into the lane they want miles and miles before their exit. THAT creates back-ups.

I have always wanted to know who is responsible in the instance when a car enters a gap barely big enough and gets rear ended by the car behind? Does anyone know?

I always like to leave a safe distance between myself and the next vehicle, especially when the roads are icy. Some a-hole always wants to jump in there and I always have to make sure I don't hit them.

Without doing the research, I recall reading a study about the most efficient way to merge and in fact driving to the end of the lane was the most efficient for the reasons mentioned.

Also, I believe it is not illegal to turn across a double solid. I thought it was as well but when I looked it up was surprised to find I was wrong. I believe it is in the Highway Traffic Act, or whatever the new one is called, if that is not it.

I would suggest that this is an illegal lane change but unless the accident was on the angle or one side of the vehicle it would be very hard to prove. If it was mid-lange change vs. a complete lane change then it would be clear but a straight rear ender it would be tough.

Yup.
That's actually one of the things that bugs me, is when people stop half way up a merge lane when traffic is not moving, because they don't want to be the jerk who goes to the front.

Look at all that wasted space in front of you, use it. Do people not realize that if they fill that space with cars that the feeder roads will be less backed up, that the alternating of lanes is the most efficeint way to get everyone through instead of everyone in the right lane trying to get over into the left lane at the same time? It's little things like that that add up to big delays.

Yeah I cannot WAIT until the new ring road is done and A new breed of asshat driver is born.

I drive a large truck for a living (7.8 litre) top kick with a performance chip and no governor and idiots are always thinking "oh, big truck ...slow truck ...must pass and cut off"

Last week this guy passes me and I am doing 120 already and hes flashing lights and honking and realises he's about to approach the dreaded calf robe bridge (southbound) and must lock up his brakes for 30 ft. Dude pops a tire and crashes over the edge of the slow left hand lane never to be seen again.

Made my day.

The best was the guy that followed me off of the Deerfoot South onto the Anderson Ramp. He was motioning for me to pull over. So I pull over. He gets out and runs up to me truck and jumps up on my steps.....I open my window and he starts trying to punch me.

Okay fellas....I am 6'0 240 and lets say its not wise to make me sweat......anyway I grab his shirt and gun it on the ramp get up to about 65 kms and push him off of the step of my truck. Lesson learned the hard way I guess.

I guess this should be in the cp confessional.

If this is true, then two things are false:

what I was taught in driver's ed

that the city doesn't just paint on the extra line for fun

You've ruined my life.

I believe it's legal to cross a double solid yellow line to enter or exit a roadway when you're turning left... but i'm not 100% sure. I just remember reading that somewhere.

Did you really get up to 65 km? One would think the dude would be dead or horribly injured.
