Meh, this seems a little sudden, I mean I just helped him get the legend card on monday. And it's a little extreme just to delete everyone from psn.
Anyways, I'll be on tonight at 9. Maybe our new german imports will be on.

With the site finished I think I'm going to take this opportunity to quit NHL09 as well. I have enjoyed playing on the team with everyone who has been a part of it (yes, even Kipper is King despite his stone hands and lack of virtual hockey sense). So thanks to everyone for the laughs and the good games, and I hope to see you all on NHL10 when it is released. Also thanks to Dobbles for creating and maintaining the site for as long as he did, it is the reason this team is still around and didn't quickly die off like that crappy Xbox 360 team.

I hoping Rob will get back to it. He had his reasons, so I don't blame him for being upset.

I was a part of a 10 guy CP v. CP game a couple weeks ago, I couldn't believe the bickering between a few people regarding percieved cheese vs. non-cheese goals in that game.
I had to believe there was something more below the surface to cause such arguments over such a petty thing in an intra-team scimmage, but who knows.

To the guys I was playing with last night and let me join the team, thanks. I hadn't planned on playing until after midnight but it was a lot of fun.
I can't recall who everyone was so... Thanks for bailing me out by scoring the tying goal with 50 seconds left after I put us down 2 men. I thought the game was over after I took that stupid penalty. And thanks to whoever bounced that one of my butt for the game winner in OT. Pretty sweet having your first goal be an OT winner.
A few questions:
Why is it that the defensemen can beat the crap out of me when I'm standing in front of the net but if I touch them I get two minutes? Frustrating.
I'm still trying to get a handle on the controls. Is there somewhere that lists all the controls? After the game last night someone mentioned using L2 when trying to bang a puck in so that you don't take a penalty. I don't recall seeing that one in the instruction manual. I'm sure I am missing a lot of things.
If I get a chance I will try to get some games in again tonight. Thanks again.

Welcome to the team. I only played one or two games with you last night (one against eVo for sure, I was commenting to the other guys that you were getting thrown in the deep end), but I was impressed by some of your plays considering you are new to the team.
To answer your questions, the defense are allowed to clear the slot in the game pretty aggressively, but if the offensive player does anything it will be called. You just have to live with this and be transient in the slot.
L2 is called 'Vision Control'. It allows you to turn to face the puck (ie. if you are in front of the net looking for a deflection etc.), and while you hold it, you will not be able to check an opponent. For example, if you are in front of the net looking for a rebound and you press up on the right analog stick while pressing L2 your player will go for a shot, if you don't hold L2 and a shot isn't possible but you press up, then chances are you will check your opponent and take a penalty. L2 was added so that you can have more control of your intentions in front of the net.
There are usually some of us on in the evenings, so just check the flash chat if you are looking for a game.

This was added in a patch after people kept taking penalties looking for rebounds.
Do you know about the performance cards? Have you upgraded your guy at all?

Thanks guys. I got lost on the ice a few times and got "tunnel of death"ed a few times along the board but once I get a better feel for things and get a better handle on the control I'm sure things will improve.
I was pretty disappointed with all the penalties that I took, but in the two games I played it seemed like our team was getting way more penalties then the other team. Lots of cheesy interference type calls.
Last night after I retired from NHL09 I went to check out the chat room. Someone there mentioned doing these upgrades. I know I have done some upgrades of my offline be a pro dude but it sounds like I might need to do something with my online guy. I'm not sure but I will try to check it out tonight.
One other thing, last night a few guys told me to go into the chat room but i don't have computer downstairs by my PS3 so I won't be able to chat while I play.

Dont worry, i cant chat when i play too. I just join the chat room and run to my PS3 :P
As for penalty, you will know how to avoid unnecessary penalty after you play for a while. Just dont body check someone without the puck and use LP when you are in offence zone.

I think my wife would be pissed if I started running up and down the stairs to chat about a video game.

I'm intrested in joining the fata's if possible now that schools nearly done and dynasty mode is no longer fun, so what do I have to do to join the teams? My PSN name is BJW92.

Are you guys playing with the modifications that XBox/PS3 released a few months ago? Is it easier to score that way? I know this is really late, considerin '10's already gettin close to comin out. But I finally started playin '09 on a consistent basis, I'm gettin sick of outshooting teams by a 2-1 margin and losing in a shootout every single game(the impossibility of scoring in a shootout is another separate rant). I've lost my fourth straight game now, all in SO's, because I can't score. I'm fully expecting my season record to be like 21-20-41.
I never got the mods but I'm considering doing it, just ridiculous how hard it is to score right now. Every game's 2-1 in a shootout.

Think of the patch like Old NHL, New NHL. The new patch is definitely what the 'New' NHL is today.

I find it harder to score after the patch, but I'd still recommend it. It adds a lot of things for realism (interference is upped, hitting from behind is a no-no and faceoffs go to the correct end after a penalty). Personally I enjoyed the heightened penalties to begin with but they just got to be too much and I've since turned them off.
I usually like playing a dynasty and destroying my team so it's down to base players. That way I don't end up with a crazy amount of wins and it's more of a battle for a playoff spot. Truthfully it doesn't usually work, but I'm in an epic dynasty right now with the Bruins. I've actually missed the playoffs 2 seasons in a row. For whatever reason it's the most fun I've had with a hockey game. Every game is a damn battle and every goal is really exciting. I love it.

I didn't have time to play last night but I think I was able to figure out the upgrades. If I recall it said I had a Rookie Card and I had 3 points in each of the catagories to spend on upgrades. I can't remember what I choose but I'm sure next time I play for the Fatas I will be a beast.
