I went to see Transformers shortly after purchasing my first new car. I suppose that had some effect on me, as a big part of the plot is the story of "a boy and his car".
Overall, the film made me feel like I was 10 years old again. I loved seeing the giant fighting robots I so fondly remember from my youth. I was the perfect audience when the cartoon was on, and I was the perfect audience once again for the movie. It was corny, and cheesy and had a lot of special effects - which is exactly what I wanted (except for perhaps the shakey cam. It was hard to see what was going on at the end). The sounds of transformation really brought back nostalgia of getting home from school and running into the basement to watch the show.
I haven't had Transformers in my life for 20 odd years now. It's good to have them back again.
I can't wait for the second movie.
