I don't mind people on the left lane who try to police the roads by going 100km/h. I just cut around them and make sure I spray their car full of rocks and gravel. No biggie to me. Either way I'm getting around you.

DESS is the kind of driver that I rountinely like to pass, flip the bird to, then go in front of them and slow down until they then try to undertake me. It's fun when they get mad.
I, on the otherhand, don't have any issues when someone comes up behind me. I move over to the middle lane, they pass, and there is no problem whatsoever.

Hey DESS, I'm making you a profile here:

and I need some info from you to finish it off. Maybe send a picture too so we can really strike fear into the hearts of evildoers.
Thanks!

If the money made from this goes to reducing property taxes, then sure. Alternatively if it reduces the number of police that are patrolling strictly for traffic offences, then again I support it.
I'm guessing that the money generated will not go into those two things.

Yeah, I am working on that too. It is too bad the intersection cameras dont use radar.
For Deerfoot, I would assume that the cameras would be just like the ones they use in the multanova vans.
If that is the case, and this happens, I will just set myself up with a radar jammer. I've been tossing the idea around for a while anyway.
Speaking of speeding, watch out on Highway 2 these days. The cops are LAYING down on a over pass (with their cars parked on the non-visible off ramp) and shooting laser from between the gaurd rail. You get very little, almost no, warning with the laser. On the bright side, if you are paying attention, you can visually see them laying on the overpass before they acquire you with laser sights.
Funny story ... I was heading east bound on the Carstairs/Acme overpass last fall. For those familiar with that overpass, you go uphill quite a bit, then crest the overpass, then back down hill again. I crested the hill at a significant speed. In the middle of the overpass was a moronic sherrif lying PERPENDICULAR in the road shooting laser down highway 2. His legs seriously went 75% across my lane. I had to swerve aggressively not to chop his legs off with my car. Just how stupid are these sherrifs?

That is one seriously long legged sherrif, he must be 16 feet tall

Ha ... I love DESS' remarks, they are so funny. Wow.
These speed cameras won't affect me much I suppose, but I'm so glad to have a superhero like DESS out there on the mean streets making sure people behind him are adhering to his morals. What the city should do is invest the $7,000,000 or so to pay for more Deerfoot Sheriffs like Const. DESS to just drive 100 in all lanes up and down Deerfoot each day. That way no one can foil the speed cameras!
Driving is so much more relaxing when you just stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and worry about yourself. That being said, I make sure I am mindful of those around me (not everyone is happy toodling along at the speed limit of course) and get out of their way if it would be of any benefit. Live and let live, I suppose.

No, not really. On that overpass, the white shoulder lines are only about 24" from the gaurd rail. His shoulders were on top of the white line.

RE: thread - another brilliant idea by Calgary police, to go along with speed cameras and red light cameras at an intersection.
(in all seriousness, I hope this implamentation is to cut down on the 150km/hr+ racers in Calgary that simply just can't handle driving that speed)
RE: driving Deerfoot - the left lane is for those to pass, the middle lane is for speed limit, the right lane is for those to get up to the speed limit+10% to get out of the lane people need to merge into. If you want to go under the speed limit, take residential roads. Pretty much the general rule anywhere else in the world.

how do you handle the guys who drive their sunfire 110 during winter storms when clearly the pace of traffic and the acceptable speed is closer to 90?

If they want to reduce the amount of accidents, then I suggest the cameras be used in the fashion as quoted above.
How about CPS patrol Deerfoot and spot the scared sheetless drivers that are merging incorrectly, holding up all traffic by driving too slow, (in whatever lane), panic braking for no reason....how about that?
Sure, some guy driving 150-160 at 3am and plowing into the median doesn't meet the above criteria, but you could almost guarantee that the largest amount of accidents on Deerfoot are NOT caused by speeders.
|
Totally Agree! People trying to merge, but are too chicken-poop to step on the gas pedal, people who signal and merge without considering the fact i am going 2x as fast, in a big truck, and driving right at them (probably the same people who failed drivers ed for not doing something called a shoulder check), and people who are just plain bad drivers (16-24 year old girls in the sunfires their daddy bought for them, yapping on their cell phones have a knack for doing stupid things) cause way more accidents than the people who go 110, 115, or on occasion 120 in the left lane. i wish there were annual drivers tests, or phone numbers on everyone's car, so i could call in ######s.

I was totally against this the first time I heard about it. Not because I'm a huge speeder, (usually only on out of city highways) I'm just against the increasing surveilance of our society and feel we're already going down a dangerous path.
But after reading about some of your driving habits I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea after all.

I don't give a crap about speed cameras on Deerfoot. If I decide to speed, I do so knowing that I'm running the risk of paying a fine. I feel the same way when I decide to commit bank fraud, cheat on a lover, murder a homeless guy or import a significant amount of heroin.
I'm not stupid. I try to limit my exposure to the consequences of my actions, such as carefully disposing of my clothes after murdering a homeless guy, hiding heroin in cheap Chinese electronics (you have no idea how much harder this is with this damn recession), or slowing down when I'm approaching an overpass on the Deerfoot, because I know they like to park photo-radar vans in their shadow.
Ultimately though, I'm sure my actions will catch up with me, and I'll either get a fine or six months in prison (thank you Canadian justice system).
