Yeah, but you also had to go to eau claire and risk catching something from those seats. Has to be one of the dirtiest theaters I have ever been in.

I hadn't read the comics before, so this is where I am coming from.

Spoiler review:

Amazing visuals (loved Rowsap's mask) and Rowsap as a character was pretty spectacular. However, the movie seemed to really drag on in a lot of parts. I thought the dragging out on the back story of the comedian didn't add too much value to the movie - we get it, that chick is your daughter, you were a bad dude, you got killed, you were on to Veidt - I don't need to see you for half the movie explaining this back story. The whole introduction/plot was really unclear. It was kinda of hard to follow it in that respect as well. I didn't go in expecting much in terms of a superhero movie - but I would have liked to see a little more in terms of action (don't get this confused for violence/gore, which in the movie was actually pretty over the top in some areas). I'm not sure if that could've fit into the story, but that was more of what I was hoping for. You've got this awesome cast of characters and it seems you didn't use them or you got to see their full potential.

Anyways just my opinion. Maybe you should read the comics before going and you might enjoy it more than I did.

It wasn't that I wasn't following the plot. I got the main storyline. It was just that I found the whole thing really cheesy... and maybe I was hoping that there was some underlying message or subplot that I just wasn't getting that made me feel that way.

You know in the Dark Knight when Batman starts talking and you hear his voice for the first time? If you thought that was over the top than I don't think you will like this movie. There were so many cheesy parts of this movie IMO. During some scenes, (which were not intended to be humorous at all) there were several people in the theatre, including myself, who burst out laughing at the sheer over-dramatization of this movie. Just my 2 cents.

I'm a fan of the graphic novel but definitely not a diehard. At the time it came out it was like nothing anybody had seen in comics before. People who found this book back then and loved it are going to love the movie (I think). Knowing the hero's name is Rorschach (not Rowsap) puts things in a bit better context for example don't you agree?. Those who go in knowing little or nothing probably won't dig this movie.

While the Trailers excite anyone who read the novel, people who are going in expecting to see a lot of what the trailers had will be letdown. I'm curious to see the directors cut as I'm sure it would be 'easier' to follow. Of course you all would then be complaining on how long it was.

This is what I'm afraid of. I hated 300, thought it was all visuals and no storyline, and ridiculously cheesy. But for some reason I kinda wanna see this one. Is it kinda the same deal? Because if I have to sit through another 300 for almost 3hrs, I won't be happy.

^^^^ It's definitely not as over the top as 300. I just came back and having read the book I quite enjoyed the movie. I can see how some who hadnt read it might not like it as much but thats the risk you run when making a comic book movie. There wasn't much action in the book so I didnt expect much in the movie, but when there was it was very sweet. Quite violent, a little moreso than the book. Overall I very much enjoyed it

For the record....sorry for so many posts, But I thought Jackie Earl Haylee(SP?) was spot on as Rorschach. Spoiler in white: Especially in his death scene, very moving

I agree about the soundtrack, perfect fit. It is, after all, set in the 1980s and about middle-aged characters who were nostalgic for the time of their prime. So it makes sense that for the 68 year-old Comedian's last fight, the music would be a jazz standard evocative of the 1940s and 50s, for the sex scene in which the two lovers in their 40s are dressed in the costumes of their youth, the music would be a 1960s Leonard Cohen song.

I think I enjoyed Rorschach more in the movie than in the novel, the character was just so well done, especially in prison. And I was amused by Danny Woodburn (Mickey from Seinfeld) as one of the small-time villains.

I saw this movie last night, I've never read the comic before and I didnt even know about the Watchmen before this thread was started.

I really enjoyed the movie although it was a little long. I didnt find it hard to follow, and I can see that they really tried to develope the characters - hence why it was so long, and a little meandering at times. And despite going into the theater thinking it was going to be cheesy, I didnt think it was at all. The fact that the majority of characters are not definitively good or bad was very refreshing, and the same could certainly be said of the ending.

Solid storyline with lots of character depth (maybe almost too much), and bonus points for the stylish pop culture satire. I think I may have also developed a fetish for women in latex

I saw this one last night. I hadn't read the book and had no idea what it was about. I thought it was okay, the people I went with loved it. My thoughts on it, without too much elaboration so as to not ruin it for anyone....

Couple of gory scenes that I wasn't expecting, I thought this would be a fairly straightforward action hero type deal.

Wasn't difficult to follow at all.

I really liked the opening scenes/montage.

Some of the dialogue was weak.

I liked Rorschach. Could be a bit of a spoiler, so in white... "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me." Loved that.

The females seemed to be kinda weak.

It did seem a little long.

Points for having male frontal nudity, instead of just having T&A only like every other movie made nowadays. Granted, it was blue and glowing, but still, finally something for the ladies.

Well, I don't mind it if a film is a bit lengthy, as long as the scenes have some kind of relevance or add something to the film. I felt there were a few scenes that just didn't really need to be in there. I would watch the directors cut just to see if those scenes would be more relevant in that cut.

On the soundtrack, I was told the tracks had some relevance to the novel itself, perhaps they were specifcally mentioned in there somewhere, I am not sure. Listing them out, they would seem like bizarre choices given that it's supposed to be a fairly dark movie, but I thought they actually worked well in the film. "99 Luftballons" made me think, "What?" but even that one seemed to work within the feel of the movie.
