Oh good call! Is the cat licensed yet? If not that would be a good way to get some official documentation.

If that doesn't work I would give some serious consideration to the "lost cat secretly with a friend" idea.

Split the cat . . . with her.
Bandsaws they solve more custody issues then the court room.

I'd call the SPCA and tell them you witnessed her beat her cat many times for biting wires...that should keep her busy.

I would also suggest getting it Licensed if you haven't already, too.
And then get a restraining order.

Well I don't know how "intensive" it is, but it sure is insensitive
If you aren't a pet owner you will never understand. I couldn't live without my little buddy because they truly do become family, if not more important! I use to be exactly the same way "Who cares it's just an animal." but now I understand having my own.

You are worried, but really, what is she going to do? As Dion said, a verbal contract is just as binding as a written one, and if she wants to pay for a lawyer to try and sue the cat from you, she can go right ahead and waste her money. You having the cat for the last 8 months (and her having the other cat, which rather destroys any arguments she might have about not being able to take care of it until now) makes it pretty obvious who is telling the truth if it comes down to your word against hers.

As far as what she "learned" from 311, she's obviously a liar and a headcase, and I'd take her "findings" with a huge amount of skepticism.

I'd suggest you just don't take any calls from her or communicate with her in any way; she's obviously doing this to cause you distress, but if she doesn't get any payoff in being able to see or hear your pain, she is likely to get discouraged. Don't even listen to her voicemails - just delete, delete, delete and ignore. If she comes by, don't open the door. If she comes to your work, get her escorted out. It'll be hard but not as hard as letting her screw with your mind going forward.
 |
Thanks man, I just lisenced it online so it's all good. You are right about not communicating with her. I blocked every way she could contact me but she called today from an unknown #. Long story but I hadn't talked to her in 4 months but somehow she snuck through. I just went to the city of calgary site and should be getting the official lisence anyday.

I was going to leave it with my parents for a bit but now there is no need. Thank you all!

I'm curious as to why she would want the other cat 8 months later... did she kill the one she took or something?

Even if you license it, register it with a new vet etc, if she goes to court she still might win due to the dates involved will clearly show what you are doing. I am pretty sure it will force her to go to court though, rather than just show up with cops and collect.
What you should also do to solidify your case in court is find the receipt of you paying for the cats medical treatment, and add that to the verbal contract (which turns into your word against hers) that you can present in evidence. If you paid all expenses for the cat, and can reasonably show that she only took the cat to the vet because her time schedule allowed her to do it for you, ie she works less or at a more opportune time. It will add weight to your case.

You might still lose your cat, but at least you will make it hard on her.

My two cents don't talk about a legal matter on CP!!!!
I of course am poking fun at all the people who say this in other threads. As if CP is the NY Times of the interwebs and anything they say will be analyzed and disected by the media. haha.

The obvious answer was to murder her. But since you've already made this situation public knowledge...
Tell her you'll give the cat back, but she has to pick it up on Saturday morning, at 10am. Then go camping on Friday night. When she asks where the hell you were, keep making excuses. Basically, keep jerking her around, and yank her chain, and keep saying you'll give it back, and keep giving her false hope.

Then finally, tell her the cat died, and that you already buried it in your backyard several months ago. Tell her she is free to come dig up the corpse and verify it. Call the city and find out where an electrical line is located. Put the cat's tombstone right on the electrical line, and hope she is vindictive enough to dig there. If the electrical current doesn't end her, hit her over the head with the shovel, and use the hole she's already half-dug to hide the body.

Agree to give it back and just before she comes to pick it up - pee on your cat. When she asks why the cat smells like pee - tell her that its developed a bladder problem and can't control itself anymore.
No one wants a cat that pees everwhere.

Problem solved. The only difficult thing is that you have to pee on your cat which is sorta weird I guess.
