For a minute, just pretend someone would procreate with you, more than once even. One of your children ends up in Group A and one of your children ends up in Group B. How does your family take summer vacation, or spring vacation for that matter?

Teaching is a joke. These people work 3/4 days, 2/3s of the year yet earn at least 100% of a salary. Not to mention it's got to be one of the only jobs on the planet where you can pretty much map out exactly what you'll make from the age of 21 until the day you die. Yes, teachers always conveniently forget that they will continue to get paid for their easy job for ~30 years after they last teach a class. You know exactly what you're getting into from a salary perspective so STFU once you're in it. I mean you can't honestly think you'll be a millionaire teaching grade 4 for 25 years, nor can you possibly think you'd deserve it.

lol, and Dess hits another one out of the park.

We all went to school so we all have that level of experience so please don't act like you have some special knowledge that the rest of us fail to possess. Those of us that are close to the profession (by virtue of being a teacher or married to a teacher) have significantly more knowledge of what it takes to be one. Because I am in the category that knows more about it than you, I take great pride in saying that you don't know what you're talking about.

Of course there are poor teachers out there that mail it in all the time. Does that mean that "teaching is a joke"? I suppose in your mind it does.

I could ramble on but it's not worth the effort. Feel free to respond but it probably won't matter. Everybody speaks so highly of the "ignore" feature that CP has ... I think I'm finally going to give it a whirl.

I'm really getting a kick out of this, as I am a teacher and will be cutting out of work around 2:00 p.m. today. Granted I'm only 3/4 time, so six hour days are normal for me. Other than the money part, 30 hour work weeks are frickin' sweet...if big government could subsidize it, a possible solution to the unemployement problem would be to have most of the work-force work 30 hours a week. But what the hell do I know, I'm just a teacher...Special Ed. at that.

This is the attitude many parents have and it is unfortunate for the system and their kids. Who are you kidding. Maybe educate yourself about what exactly a teacher does. I am not one but have many in my family and they really care about the work they do and it shows. They have many kids that they have impacted for a lifetime. Anyways, I respect the work they do and teachers in general. We have all had teachers that have impacted our lives. I think the hardest part of teaching is dealing with the parents as they can be so demanding and the expectations are constantly going up. Can't even go to the grocery store without bumping into parents so in a sense the job never shuts off. Cut them some slack.

You're a talking stereotype. Gosh, I hate "teachers" like you.

Pretend for one minute, just one minute, that a parent would consider you a good steward for their child. Maybe you'd lose some of this "oh, so pretentious" attitude.

I'm thrilled that you could find the time to attack my post (and me personally (even though I'm not a teacher). Curious that you don't have an issue with DESS's generalizations of all teachers being lazy, but seemingly have a huge problem with my retort.

It wouldn't be that you have a problem with what I posted in another thread, would it?

So they're getting taxpayer money to the tune of about $3000.00 during the summer, knowing full well they have a job starting the last week of August.
This may be true in parts of America, but it certainly isn't true in Canada. Up here if a teacher had a contract the previous year, they are considered to be employed until the second week of September. So no seasonal EI for teachers.

You don't seem to have any idea what teachers do before and after the bell rings.

Geez you guys. I can't believe there isn't one single person on here that ever backs me up on anything I say. This forum should be called PC not CP since there isn't anybody ever willing to say anything politically incorrect. (feel free to sig that one, lol)

I'm not saying teachers don't care about their jobs or their students, that's ######ed. It's just completely obvious that as a job, it's easier than every other job. Less hours per day, less days per year, very good salary, amazing benefits, full pension. Yet they complain CONSTANTLY.

Absolutely not. I apologize for mis-referencing you as a teacher, it was my mistake.

While I don't agree that ALL teachers are lazy, I would say from my own fairly complete experience with both private and public education systems. That most teachers are a pretty entitled, whiny bunch. Why?

Probably the insidious affect of the unions which seem to think that, even though teachers at most have a BA in whatever, they constitute some sort of cultural elite. Not the case. Most teachers aren't all that bright and teach straight out of the curriculum. I know. I've sat in those classrooms, I've observed in those classrooms.

Maybe if there was an ounce of reward available for teachers on the basis of merit, instead of years spent in the system. Maybe if there was a way for more direct disciplinary actions towards the many teachers who use and abuse their position of authority over students as if it was a God-given right. Maybe if parents were allowed more input into the educational process.

Then, perhaps, you would see the public profile of teachers go up a tad.

Interesting isn't it? Perhaps then, you should examine your opinions and consider whether or not you should revise some of them.

I kind of agree with DESS. Every future teacher I talk to is so excited about having an awesome salary complete with less hours and a mammoth summer break.

If everyone had the same opinion, it would be kind of boring around here wouldn't it?
Revising opinions to get others approval? Only a complete pansy would do that.
