I find it funny that people allow themselves to be baited by this. Don't pay any attention to her and she'll go away. You can't imagine how many times I say that to young men and women each day; to not follow my own advice here would be incredible.

Gosh, you kids are so sensitive - obviously, she is over the top, but her main point, that the Democrats are in the pocket of the teacher's union, is undoubtedly correct.

That is some public intellectualiciousness right there.
There is this:
Apparently, nothing irritates public schoolteachers more than being asked to teach. While 80 percent of the employees of private schools are teachers, only half the employees of public schools are. The rest are "coordinating," "facilitating" or "empowering" something or other.

If her stat is accurate it sounds like a lot of waste within the public system. How much federal money is used up in administration that should be paying more teachers?
She also raises the question of whether the Federal government should even be involving themself in education. In my own mind I think education should be administered and funded by each county with the State throwing money in the kitty to assist their poorer districts. The more levels of government involved: The more waste involved. Also, the farther the administration and oversight is for the work on the ground the worse the decisions are which come down the pipe.

Oh please, we all know what teachers do. It's the only profession I was able to job shadow five days a week, five hours a day for 12 straight years.

Teaching is a joke. These people work 3/4 days, 2/3s of the year yet earn at least 100% of a salary. Not to mention it's got to be one of the only jobs on the planet where you can pretty much map out exactly what you'll make from the age of 21 until the day you die. Yes, teachers always conveniently forget that they will continue to get paid for their easy job for ~30 years after they last teach a class. You know exactly what you're getting into from a salary perspective so STFU once you're in it. I mean you can't honestly think you'll be a millionaire teaching grade 4 for 25 years, nor can you possibly think you'd deserve it.

Schools should all be open year round so we can maximise use of these expensive facilities and for once get our (taxpayers') money's worth out of these over-priced civil servants. Students would be split into two groups, so at any given time one of the two groups would be in class. Teachers start out with two weeks' holidays like the rest of us, and work up to four weeks over a 10-year period.

THAT would be fair.

Honestly, why is there a thread on Ann Coulter?

Anything she says is worthless and anyone who even considers her opinion is equally worthless.

She is a drain on societies intellectual fabric -- although she does stand out as a very good example of just how dumb extreme ignorance is.

As for teachers -- the only thing wrong about the profession is that it is exceedingly hard to remove bad teachers from the job. Otherwise they work just has hard as the average office worker (likely moreso). I know many teachers, music teachers, who put in 10 hour days, sometimes 6 days a week. They are far more stressed out then I ever am so anyone claiming that teaching is an "easy" job has no clue what they are talking about as far as I'm concerned.

To be honest, that sounds more like a reflection on your work ethic and not on the profession itself.

Why is going to school a reflection of his work ethic?

Did you actually read the whole article or just the funny bit about teachers? Her being offensive, does not take away from the fact that she is right.

I volunteer for a charity that supports German Education in Calgary. Our teachers are amazing - they all seem to be routinely working 12 hour days, not to mention weekends and summer. There may be some bad apples (like any other profession), but I am thankful for the hard work and dedication of our teachers.

The problem with your solution is the hillbilly and backwoods counties that insist on teaching "intelligent design" and creationism as science. Someone has to set national standards.
