Haven't read the whole thread but Karachi, Pakistan has probably been mentioned.

Edit: Now I've read it all, surprised no one has mentioned this hell hole city.

Tuscany is a brutal place too.

There are large parts of Rome that have really turned up the suck too.

Nope, but they lack the beauty of the highest tides in the world, sandy beaches, and the warmest water north of Florida. Other places in the Maritimes have the beaches and water, but none have the warm water (you'll freeze you ass off in the water in Nova Scotia). I have a cottage 15 minutes outside of Moncton (Shediac) and am seriously considering moving their permanently when I retire.

PS for the people who don't know, the South east side of NB is on the Northumberland Straight. As it is shallower than the Atlantic and PEI blocks it from being right on the Atlantic, it's water are incredibly warm. Looking for a cottage looke there, or on the western side of PEI.

hey, hey...I was not commenting on the other areas....but the petitcodiac in and around Moncton is nasty, big mud flats, and not impressive, at least when I lived there it was like that. I heard they is a move to remove the causeway and put in a bridge, which is meant to clean up that area.....

Worst places I've been would be:

bus station in Rivas, Nicaragua and the entirety of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

I really hate Red Deer. This may have to do with the fact that in my younger days I chased a girl around for 6 months and when the decision finally came down to date me or move to Red Deer, she chose Red Deer. Nothing (nothing) forces you to re-evaluate your life more than when people would rather be in Red Deer than be with you.

Other than Red Deer I'd say my most hated place would have to be Brooks, AB. If you ever find yourself wondering what a pig slaughterhouse smells like, it's time for a road-trip to Brooks. I'm not even exaggerating a little when I say a buddy and I ran from our car in the Tim Hortons parking lot into the Tim Hortons itself. I almost gag just thinking about that hole.

My girfriend is from Medicine Hat. The first time we went down there to visit her family I heard the term, "Brooks Button". That is what her and her family call the button in your car that changes the air flow from "fresh" to "re-circulating". If you wern't on the ball and pushed it too close to Brooks you would savor the experience Russic was talking about.

Pigeon park in Vancouver. Was the scariest place I've ever been anywhere. Thank god it was during the day.

I hear Chernobyl doesn't have much appeal.

Quote:
This is the town of Chernobyl - The entire population was evacuated in 1986 - but not until long after the danger enveloped them. It was a base for the Atomic Power Plant workers. Some still live here, this is the safest area in a zone. Geiger counter reading here now is 20-80 microroentgens, depending of where you stay.

Interesting account of driving through the area http://www.kiddofspeed.com/

I think you're forgetting that there are a lot of beaches along the North Western coast of Nova Scotia that are just as warm as anything you'll find in NB or PEI... seeing as it's the same body of water.

If you want a cottage, look around Pictou, Antigonish, etc. All the benefits you speak of without the stigma of being in NB.

Shediac is great though. Only place in New Brunswick I will intentionally return to. Anyone ever been to Edmundston? Yikes, what a place.

Last I hear it is being removed, but it will take 50 years or so for the river to regenerate and reclaim the mud flats. They've really cleaned that area up though, full of baseball fields and parks now.

Taking all that aside, Moncton continuosly ranks in the top ten places to live in Canada based on a yearly independent survey. It has a pretty strong economy focused around technology, a large cultural and arts scene, PGA caliber golf courses, and minutes from some the nicest beaches in North America. It has no business in this thread.

Edmundston is definitely one large hole. Like Saint John, on a smaller level.

Haha, my brother lives in Valleyview. Went up there for his wedding, ended up in the emergency room. The place may suck, but the health care @ 1:30 am was outstanding!

Worst place I have ever been is a random shanty town outside Puerto Vallarta. Not because it was a ghetto, but because I was sure I was gonna get mugged and raped. Although, im not hot and blond -- or have boobs, so i mightve been ok.

Yeah I will say I've noticed people who live in Moncton generally like it. Must be something in the water!!

I find it incredibly boring/ugly.
