Just found it interesting that there was actually a show on history channel for this.

Well yeah, that was what I was assuming, was just going along with the argument to find out more. I was actually the first one on the thread to say it looked like a bug, lol.

You'll thank this guy and me when you avoid the mandatory new prison welcome and probing at the alien prison camp.

Just watched the "documentary" from the history channel, it was painful credulous schlock but they ultimately did talk to some rational people and generated perfect "rod" shots in front of a normal camera / high speed camera setup and you can clearly see a rod in the normal camera, and you can clearly see a bug flapping its wings in the high speed camera.
Basically they stretched a 5 minute "how'd they do that" video into an hour by talking to rod researchers all over the world, giving them their 50 minutes of fame, building models and putting them into wind tunnels, etc etc, and then added the 5 minutes of reality at the end.
Yay education?
Save me mythbusters, you're my only hope.

Ever been to an airshow and had a plane zip by 250 feet overhead at 500km/h? You notice.
No one noticed it because it was a bug in front of the camera.

Heard about rods one sleepless night a few years on Coast to Coast AM. We'd rip the individual leaves off of palm fronds, throw them around and call them "rods". Lost car keys? The rods moved them. Late for work? Rods screwed up the alarm clock. We had lots of fun with that!

Rods
A rod is an insect caught in the act of flying by a video camera. Some hoaxers or very imaginative people have been maintaining that rods are actually some sort of unknown life form of alien origin
http://skepdic.com/rods.html
Here is a quick podcast about them.
