Good to know there is another fan of good hip hop on this forum. I would disagree with a few of your choices but definitely agree with The Roots, Black Milk and J-live. I would add to the list EMC - The Show (best hip-hop album of the year IMO) as well as Lyrics Born - Everywhere at Once, Murs - Murs for President, Atmosphere - When Life give you Lemons.... (as someone mentioned earlier) and finally the new Q-tip - The Renaissance.

With Stephen Malkmus I found initially I was drawn to Real Emotional Trash, Hopscotch Willie and Cold Son...really catchy tunes...however Elmo Delmo is without a doubt the biggest highlight on the disc IMO (I am a huge guitar junky and this song gives me an euphoric feeling that I get when listenting to Built to Spill or Dinosaur Jr..) ...Mr Malkmus is a treat to see live...very well spoken/funny artist.

This album is far closer to Pavement compared to his previous releases.

And with Deerhunter....you need to be in the mood for it..I am trying to come up with words to explain it and I can't...I suppose that is a good way to sum up the record..It is like nothing else...a mixture of Black Mountain and Mojave 3 ??...

Enjoy !

			Thanks.

I also picked up Santogold, Byrne & Eno, The Cure, Kings of Leon, MGMT, Beck, M83 and Okkervil River. I have enough 2008 records now to make my annual compialtions.

Have not heard all the new cds yet, but Santogold and MGMT are going into my top 10 for 2008.

Edit - also got Hercules & Love Affair, Elbow, Novillero, Land Of Talk, Ladytron, Hot Chip, Bon Iver. Think I'm done now - compilations ready by the New Year.

			Amazon.com Bestselling MP3 Albums of 2008
Interesting thing about #1 Ghosts I-IV by Nine Inch Nails - It has been released under the Creative Commons license and can legally be downloaded for FREE, but was still the #1 selling album.

I think Arkells should've been way higher on this countdown...top fifteen at least. Also, I'd have put Faerie Dance in instead of Bye Bye Bye and had it top ten (probably over Kathleen Edwards). Other than that I'm surprised that Will Currie was so low, because he seemed to get a ton of airtime. Everything else looks to be in decent shape, but on other tweak I'd have is putting Corb Lund higher, and with more than one song. He put out one hell of an album this year. I'm still not sold on that Chad VanGaalen song either. I like it sometimes but then there's other moments where I can't skip it fast enough.

2 Grammy nominations too.

The cool thing is that the whole album was never made available for free from Trent. It is creative commons, so people bought it and sharing it is legal.

The Slip was released totally for free from Trent but also has a physical release limited to 250,000.

And since he hates his old record company Trent just released 450GB of High Def footage from his last tour for download for free, for the fans to mix and make DVDs as they please. It has soundboard quality audio too.

Awesome awesome band. I went to Megatunes hoping I'd find their album, but they were all sold out, was pretty disappointed.
