up shaganappi just north of john laurie, or 14th along nosehill, best I can think of that I regularly drive. Conditions would have to be just right, daytime with no traffic. only have to go 130 and 120 respectivly. I'm past my days of stupidity that I would do it anymore but I was pulled over about 7 years ago doing 140 up that shaganppi hill.
also thinking about it, sarcee up or down signal hill, wide road where you can see far in front, i often find I have a natural speed increase there and have to watch myself.

Don't think so. I was in a case where it came down to my word against the cop and the judge threw it out.
I fought a red light when I was in Calgary.
Cop got up, gave his statement and messed up. He said the incident happened on 20ave and 19th St NW when it indeed happened on 24th Ave and 19th.
I questioned him on not even having the location right, his face dropped and he realised he'd screwed up so he started lying through his teeth and he insisted he was 100% sure he was right. I again called BS to the judge. was sure I was right and persisted, saying I had come off Crowchild. Cop insisted he was right. Nothing else, just my word against his.
A lot of I'm right, No I'm right back and forward. Judge disappears out back to look at the map.
Comes back and says that if he can't even determine where the offence happened then he can't even begin to start to make a decision never mind hear the case regarding the light. Says he was inclined to believe me as coming from 20th onto 19th is pretty much a dead end. Questioned the cop on his record keeping (cop started by saying that he was sitting writing up previous tickets when I ran the light).
Finished up as an aside by asking the cop why he wasn't in uniform. Cop said it was his day off. Judge says he couldn't care less and that he was giving evidence as a cop and not to enter his court in casual clothes again.
So, if I ever get done for a red light again my first defence would be Huh? It wasn't even that junction.

Hilly, over the river so it frequently ices and fogs up, and two traffic lights right in the middle.

Huh? I just drove that route last weekend. There aren't lights down there. There's the lights at Cranston and then at Chapparell. Inbetween, just a nice, long straightaway that has a bridge. No, I'm not advocating going 150 there today, but I'm saying that it could be done in the right conditions.
And I suppose going 130 in certain spots on Crowchild wouldn't be over the top. And maybe on Glenmore in a couple of places. And on Shaganappi. And on 16th. And on a few other roads...
I got called on it in a pm and I have to agree that it's not exactly insane to do it. But you have to really not care about your license. And also, I was kinda picturing places where going 50 over was more like doubling the limit. Like Elbow Drive.
150 on Deerfoot south. 130 on Sarcee. Yeah. There are a few places...

Haha I take 22X everyday and cross that bridge. It's not that bad, can get a little foggy sometimes, but definitely not the scariest area to be driving around in the city. But yeah I wouldn't go 50 over in there either)or ever for that matter)...too many cops on 22x now a days. And they're sneaky, they will park down in fish creek and walk up the hill and set up behind a lamp post. Keep your eyes peeled people!

No I ment $20,000. I guess it is $25,000

Unfortunately, as much as people hate to believe it, a cops word is proof. They go on the stand, swear on the bible, and if they lie, they're perjuring themselves.
If you really think a cops word vs. yours will get your ticket thrown out how does any ticket become legit?! A cop pulls you over after you run a red light...cop is the only witness other than yourself...and you think the ticket won't stand?!
No offense but know your stuff before you start spouting information in a thread.

There's a cop on my other hockey team, and he always gets a kick out of general misconceptions from the public, and what they think the police can and can't do.
He says his favorite people to bust are cocky young people that stand there and start telling him what he is and isn't allowed to do. He just kind of goes "oh yeah?, alright this will be fun"

As someone stated, cops are not infallible and do make mistakes.
When it comes to word vs. word, generally, a cops holds more weight. Not only are they usually the only source of evidence, but they have no motivation for lying. An accused obviously does.
If there was a question as to where (or some other lame technicality) the offence was committed and for whatever reason, the JP has some sort of reasonable doubt about the evidence, it will get thrown out. It doesn't mean he believes the accused.
Further, as with judges, JP's tend to be on one side of the fence or the other; pro-police or pro civil liberty. It is kind of a crap shoot who you get.
As far as the comment about being in plain clothes, the JP was way out of line and simply has no clue about the conduct of officers in his own court. Officers are well within their right to choose what they want to wear to court- there is no dress code (other then uniform or business attire with the exception of QB court).
It is a real marvel in these threads how people always tell stories about pulling one over on the cops or the justice system. Like it somehow vindicates what they did. And it is these same people that call foul or cry for justice when someone is killed in a traffic accident.

haha, nope, but he definitly gets that nervous, "what am I doing associating with these people" look on his face every time someone comes in with a dui story.
It's definitly better than our first year when it turns out one of our players played the whole season with a canada wide warrant issued for him.

Vindicates what? You appear to assume wrongdoing on my part.
The reason I was there in the first place was because I was convinced I'd done nothing, that and the cop was a complete prick.

More of a general statement. I wasn't necessarily directing it at you.
Although in that whole long story, not once did you say you didn't run the light. I apologize if I jumped to conclusions.

To continue this sort of derailment about police being kinda dumb from time to time...
My brother's hockey team played a game in Winfield (which is about two hours from Camrose) the other weekend when it was minus forty out. Anyways, one of the parents is driving home from the game when he hits a checkstop in one of the towns along the way. So he gets up to the cop, gives him his license and registration. Cop looks at it and says, your registration is expired (his birthday had been two weeks ago and he forgot to get it renewed). So the officer made him drive to a parking lot and sit for an hour and a half with a ten year old kid while he waited for someone to come and pick up his vehicle. Now it's true that a cop becomes liable if he lets you go when he knows that you're not one hundred percent legal to drive, but come on, the guy had a ten year old kid in the back of his vehicle and just wanted to get home from the hockey game. Kinda pisses me off, and I'm sure he was too, but what can you do I suppose...

If the cop was really a prick couldn't they have impounded the vehicle? Perhaps I have been watching too much parking wars.

I'd like to add up the billable time of all the different lawyers who have posted in this thread.
It's got to be over $1,000.00
