But regardless that's too close to call, which would not make it inconclusive evidence to make them change the call on the field.
I wonder how long it will be until the refs are held accountable for botching calls that decide games.
|
I'm not sure they ever will, or at least not in the case of 98% of the calls. They are human and they make mistakes when they need to make calls at full speed.
Now in this case I think the call falls into the other 2%, and I can't see how this was "indisputable visual evidence".

Forget the bad call for a moment and let's pretend the decision wasn't overturned.
4 and goal on the 1 inch line, down 9-6 with 20 seconds left.
What do you do?

Field goal.
Against the Ravens D you can't assume you will score, even from an inch out.
Your D has held them, their D is tiring, as evidenced by the final drive. You don't want the game to rest on a single attempt. Play for the OT because you have to believe that as soon as you get the ball back you are going to get into field goal range.

Yeah it was a clinic on how to blow a game. At least the Chiefs are making it interesting though, which makes it worth tuning into every week.

Go for it, definately. The perceived odds are much higher. You should be successful gaining 3 inches much more then 50% of the time. Overtime is 50/50.
If you can't gain 3 inches on fourth down with the game on the line, you don't deserve to win the game.
If the ball was back at the one, perhaps the story is a little different, though it's still probably better to go for it.

In this case I would say kick the FG and play for OT, in most cases I would go for the TD.
However, win or lose the toss Baltimore has a very slim chance of scoring on Pittsburgh and the Steelers had shown the ability to move the ball on offense, especially in the 4th quarter.

If the fins can throw the ball they will be in decent shape. They will be facing the worst pass rush in NFL history. Pennignton doesn't need to wear a helmet or shoulder pads (if it wasn't mandatory because of the rules).

On an aside...
The fact that T.O. was pleased as punch after the Cowboys' game rather than sulky that he only got 38 yards and no TDs leads me to believe that maybe he has finally matured a bit, and is more happy to see his team win than to achieve his own personal goals.

I think T.O's always played to win. He played in the Super Bowl on a broken leg. I don't think T.O's a stat guy. He wants to win and he wants to be in the spotlight as a winner. Because of this, he's thrown everyone under the bus and blames everyone but himself for losing.
I agree that he's matured in Dallas and this latest controversy was media created.

Unless the Cowboys win the Superbowl, the TO Sideshow will kick into hypermode in the offseason, with cries of of how Whitten is Romo's roommate on the road and uses this to get more balls thrown his direction. A win one week may quiet him down, but the seeds of discontent are already sown.
It happened in SF, both with Garcia and Mariucci; it happened when SF tried to trade TO to the Ravens, but TO didn't want to play there and filed a grievance so he could play for the Eagles; it happened with the Eagles and McNabb (recall when TO was pretending to be in McNabb's ear behind the bench between plays, to show the media how wrong it was?); and now the issues are in play again. Only a Superbowl will prevent TO from blaming everyone but himself this off season.

Yup.. Super bowl or bust. This make sense though. He's been close and he's done everything but win the Super Bowl. And he's a VERY sore loser.

There is 'doubt' so the call shouldn't be reversed IMHO.

His feet never have to touch the ground for it to be a TD.
I believe Tomlin would've went for it if they hadn't overturned the call.
My question is why in the world did they spike the ball on first down. Stupid.

Thank god! Now they need to get Cowherd in as GM/coach and get rid of the best 4-12 coach money can buy and Kc will be back on the road.
Hopefully they draft either stafford or Bradford in the draft. I like thigpen but hes not a franchise qb.

Wow, that DeShaun Jackson INT may have propelled me to the championship game....with an auto-drafted team....that took DEREK freaking ANDERSON in the 5th round....and Ocho Cinco in the 4th.

That cost me the championship game. My team went 10-1 this year losing to the only other team who went 10-1. I lost by 0.18 points cuz the ######ed Andy Reid put a WR in as QB. Had Mcnabb or Westbrook done anything on that down I won. I will hate the Eagles forever, I'm never cheering for those ######bags ever again!
