I like doing it myself, actually. I just like being outside in the snow and the fresh winter air, always have. I used to do it when I was younger for my family. Now, when I am here in Toronto, I shovel for my mom. It's great exercise.
I am like Steely, that I will push it all to the side, then toss it onto the lawn. Whatever gets the job done though, really.

I like to push everything together and then toss it into one very large corner, that way if the snow is clean I can build a giant fortress that makes my house seem much more intimidating. I then proceed to throw large amounts of snow onto neighbourhood teenagers, who honestly need to lighten up, I was a teenager less than 3 years ago, seriously, stuff I used to worry about makes me laugh now.

I totally agree. Its not that bad. I do feel the pain after a heavy snowfall, but it could be worse. Its kind of like cutting the lawn....nice in the early part of the season and then a chore by the end!

This is the key. I hate it when people shovel onto the roadway.

Agreed. maybe a little bit of snow get's shoveled on to the side of the roadway is ok... snow that barely covers the driveway, anything more than that, please use lawn or whatever is not the road.

OK, with all the talk this week about how Vancouver is better suited than Calgary to handle a dump of snow- if November 2006 is the benchmark then I guess I just have to laugh. We were in Vancouver then and laughed at the local news and how they were talking about school closures, and to stay off the roads.

I would not call that a storm, much the same way I would not consider a fart an "earthquake."

Mel- I know it wasn't you who made the original comments, so that wasn't directed at you. However thank-you for giving me some persepctive.

Trust me, the lawyer fees, fines and anger by your neighbors about their incinerated pets kind of takes away the fun of the whole thing.

I've only lived here since April 07, so no. My choices are "worst" snowfalls in Van, are pretty slim since I'm only on winter #2 |

Who said Van is better suited to handle snow than Calgary? that's absurd

And I made the original comment, but I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't think is a storm whatsoever, just a lot of snow for this city. I'm a Calgarian at the end of the day, and also laugh when people here think this is a storm.

It was in another thread Winsor; I think Friday night. When here in Calgary we were having a tough time getting around after getting 20 cm on Sunday and then another 10-15 cm on Friday; a person who moved here from Vancouver said that Calgary could take a lesson in how Vancouver is prepared to handle winter storms.
I'll find the thread.

Edit- found it:

(And not this powder they are using, which is a joke.)
Having lived through identical situations in Vancouver, I'd say Vancouver does a much better job.

That is not my experience. The snow here in Vancouver wasn't bad and it happened on a Sunday...but if this snow happened on a weekday, schools would be shutdown, transit buses stuck and plenty of now shows at work.
I have never seen a sanding truck in the city,

Meh. I'd be more worried about all the melting snow cascading down the driveway and on to the street creating a virtual skating rink with cars crashing into each other

I agree, it's great exercise. I usually don't mind it, except when it's this cold. I used to shovel senior's sidewalks and driveways on my block, but I haven't done any since I moved.
