LAS VEGAS -- The Blue Jays have reached an agreement on a Minor League contract with free-agent pitcher Matt Clement, according to a source. Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi would only say that the club might have something to announce on Thursday.

Clement and Pavano? Is Ricciardi serious? Has he not already gone that route with Ohka and Zambrano?
What a joke!

Its well worth the risk, if the Jays sign them to a minor league contract what is the risk? Personally I like the move.... if any of them regain their form thats great if not its no big deal.

Ya but how long is that going to be J.P's modo? The Jays are realistically supposed to compete with loaded Rays, Yanks, and Red Sox teams with Matt Clement and Carl Pavano? Even if Clement comes back to form, he had a high 4 ERA!
Where's the bat? How about a SS? With Marcum and McGowan out to start next season I feel very uneasy about the rotation as is stands. Clement and Pavano are a waste of time and effort if you ask me.

The short stop could be Furcal but I thought I read they would want to move a contract or 2 if they land Furcal.

Jays have repeatly said, the budget is going to be tight they can not compete with the big markets in terms of Salary...
If they can not spend a pile of Salary this is the type of moves they will make....
What other choice do they have....

Yep, JP said if he signed Furcal they would have to move a contract...
I would doubt the Jays have any chance to sign this guy...... but if they did my bet is BJ Ryan would be moved.

I have no interest in Furcal, he's not enough of an upgrade over Scoots.

Big or small budget I think these guys are not the answers. With a big budget Ricciardi has still found the Thomson's and Ohka's of the world.
Furcal I do believe would be an upgrade because of his presence at the top of the order. He's a good hitter with a great arm and pretty good speed. IMO he's precisely what they need, but whether the $$ will work is another thing.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Yankees reached a preliminary agreement with A.J. Burnett on a five-year, $82.5MM deal ($16.5MM per year on average). The deal is pending a physical, and some final terms must be hammered out.

Already been said 10000 times, but man are the Yanks dumb.
A) Burnett buckles under the pressure
B) Burnett is a puss and gets injured often
I'd sure like Burnett on my team, but at that price, it's crazy. Sabathia is good, but how is a guy that overweight gonna perform over the course of his contract. Both huge overpayments and while it may work out for them in 2009 and 2010, it's gonna hurt them afterwards.
