I wasn't stoked about Gears of War 2 either, until my brother introduced me to the Hordes mode! So fun =)

Basically you roll a ball and stuff sticks to it, making it bigger. Which means you can roll over and pick up bigger stuff, which makes it bigger. Keep going!

That's about it

But it's so much fun rolling stuff up! I've only played it on PS2 and it's the weirdest game to try and describe. You have to play it otherwise it just sounds dumb....

That game has come along way, I remember having a demo of it on my PC years ago. Just helicopter view from above, and the demo only allowed you to play for 5 minutes. I'm amazed at how big, in terms of sales; and how big, interns of depth, that games seems to be.

I am too poor to get a good, upgraded PC (I used to be a huge PC gamer, and still am at heart) and am stuck with an underpowered laptop. I can't afford any of the new consoles or even any of the old ones right now. I don't even really have a TV of my own. I'm poor as ****.

So, I've resorted to getting *ahem* PSX roms online and replaying some of my favorite old RPGs (and some of those I've missed). I'm replaying Final Fantasy Tactics, which I never got to finish, and it's a blast. Great storyline (one of the best of any FF titled game, IMO), great strategy in picking what jobs and abilities you want your party made up of, and fun, addicting battles. My only gripes are a terrible translation from Japanese which leads to momentary confusion at times, the 'tactics' in battle could be better (I'm a Combat Mission player), and... well, that's about it, really.

Loving it!

I know you said you're poor but try getting a used psp. You can convert the psx roms to be used on a hacked psp for portable fun. The save files should be compatible so you could play on the go and transfer the saves back when you play on pc. Also they released an upgraded ff tactics game for psp which is great.

The original Katamari Damacy on the PS2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The first time you roll up a screaming 10 year old is nothing short of gaming brilliance.

It's so satisfying to start the level rolling a ball the size of a basketball and then by the end of the level you are rolling up semi trucks and boats. What I liked about the game was how the ball you are pushing reacts to the items you've collected. If you roll up a lightpost for example, you're ball obviously won't roll smoothly for a time. I thought that was really cool.

FFT is seriously underrated by many - I really wish that FFT advanced was the same as the FFT that was released on playstation
the game that got me hooked was FFIII(which is really FFVI), before that I had a nintendo and that was fun and all, but once i started playing FF everything kinda went downhill

FF VI is what started me, too. Still the best one, IMO.

Yup same here. I remember making fun of it when my friend was playing it. I thought it looked stupid that your characters attacked enemies from the other side of the screen.

Then one day he left it over at my house and I decided to play it. It totally blew my mind that there was an actual story in a videogame. Been a fan ever since.

I may be 18 but I am a gameaholic. I have had nearly every Nintendo system ever made, going back NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and the awfulness that is the Wii. I have a PS3, Xbox 360, no life whatsoever.

For anyone with a 360 though, really consider Left 4 Dead. What a delightful game that is.

Also, if your new to 360 check out:
Mass Effect
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Bioshock
CoD2

Oh and by the way, Lego games kick so much ass. I like the Star Wars one better than the Indy one, but both are so good.

P.S. I know I am an UBER dork.

I play loads of games on a daily basis, for fun and for research (I'm a game designer).

My Best Game of the year and a must have for Xbox 360 owners is "Braid": http://braid-game.com/

Honorable mention goes to Mirror's Edge and NHL 09.

My last console was a Dreamcast. I am a PC gamer and consoles past the Dreamcast make me ill (PS2, Xbox360 PS3). I guess it's because the DC was more arcade oriented and that's what I like. I bought heavy duty arcade sticks, the arcade twinsticks for virtual on, etc.

Man! How do you get into game design?

I've designed modules for Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, began and developed a huge mod for Rome: Total War (Rome: Total Realism), amongst some other things.

I've always looked at it as something you almost stumble into, or have to do from the very ground up on your own. I'm not so much into programming, as pure design. That's why I loved making modules for NWN so much.

I would consider myself a very hardcore gamer, work at a game store, checking news every night, know everything about everything, buy 2-3 games a month, and try to play at least an hour a day.

Welcome to the club.

It's a fantastic hobby, games are interactive works of art, and anyone who tells you otherwise is ignorant.

If you want a phenomenal game check out the brand new Prince of Persia title on 360. Breathtaking game from start to finish, and not too difficult either.

Seen a commercial for it the other day, looked amazing. Still can't believe that title is around, that game was difficult as on the super Nintendo.

Well there was about a ten year break in between titles, but they brought it back with the stellar Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2003. They did two decent sequels to that one, and then did another reboot for it just this year.

Love the new one, playing it every night.

Sweet man. I plan on doing a run for some games on boxing day, so I'll look at it or rent it.

IIRC, you're the guy who really liked the Wii right?

I haven't touched my 360 in a couple months really. Got sick of playing on a tiny 20" tube TV. Picking up an HDTV next week and will be back on it again a lot.

In the meantime gaming on my PC is helping with my withdrawal (Lineage II, The Witcher). I also bought Star Ocean: First Departure for the PSP 2 nights ago. I play that during my breaks at work.
