Meteors usually cover huge distances, just sounds like this one was bigger/brighter than most.

In a way this is very scary, If it was seen by people that far apart and was that bright it would mean it was very big, more like an asteriod than a little meteor.
So much for early warnings of catastrophic events
Not even close, if it was an asteroid you wouldn't be typing anything right now.

A meteor the size of a baseball can be as bright as the full moon.

I noticed that as well. It appears to be totally static. I'd wondered if it might be an aircraft reflecting the light from the fireball, but at one point it seems to flash independently, and doesn't seem to be moisture on the camera either.

Maybe CFB Cold Lake knows something about this...

I also saw the fireball, I saw it light up the sky, I also saw it fall through the clouds and break into open sky. It looked like a flare falling and breaking up as it fell. contact me at 403-457-5453 for me to tell you where and when I seen it, it could not have been far cause i don't think the cloud ceiling was too high.
Anyone want to call up "m" and see if the person wants to take a refresher English course?

(Sorry, the improper use of "seen" really bothers me. I'll get over it)

Let's just hope he got his number right. Otherwise some poor soul is going to start getting crank calls from internet pranksters.

I have seen a few strange things:

In Ottawa I saw a flaming meteor fly through the sky at a low altitude, bright enough to light up everything.

I once saw some strange light phenomena (I forget the technical term) caused by a mammoth sunspot/flare, it looked like a tube of glowing 'light' floating in the air.

I saw a second flaming fireball split into three chunks over sylvan lake a few years ago.

The topper of them all was I was standing on top of a mountain in Nicaragua enjoying the warm/cool breeze, surrounded by jungle. You could see the whole milky way above me, barely any lights anywhere, when all of a sudden there was a massive blast of light somewhere on the horizon. Looked like a nuke... Then there was another in a different spot...I thought the world was about to end...I think I saw five or six mammoth explosions in the middle of the night, until the entire country lost power. I never found out what exactly happened, but to be in the middle of a country with no power is strange. It was very dark, very abnormal.
